Did a test, came to a conclusion... super cheap 50mm canon lens beats most super expansive cinema lenses I ever tested. Sharp as a tack and beautiful falloff and hardly any edge softness.. this lens weights less than a lens cap, cost is also about the same... Bellow are some samples. shot att f5.6. The first one is a still frame from the sequence at 1:1 5k resolution click on the actuall picture in your browser to see it in full resolution. the other two are scaled down to HD proress LT.

Excellent !

All what I think is cine lenses are overpriced even if they have specials features and heavy build. Ok well, why zeiss or red don't make not expensive lenses with plastic ? Why only Rokinon made some very cheap and excellent cinelenses and not the other brands ?

Because they want just keep the "professional cine material" for professional. It is a way to protect professional society.

So now, if red or zeiss or any lenses brand read that, please we don't need strong and heavy metal lenses because we aren't gonna shot a war, please make low price cinelenses for everyone !

If Canon can make a high optical quality lens for this price why zeiss or red can't ?

Canon sell hundreds of thousands and make them in house...
RED make several hunder... and someone else makes them for RED.
One is made of plastic, the other metal..

It's a numbers game...

But from a optical stand point... yes, you are correct.

Even though this lens has a quite advanced focus mecanism, it's quite far from practial at a cinema shoot. infinite and 5 meters is about 3 millimeters apart on the focus ring... But then again, autofocus goes a long way. :)

"Spectacular optics (better than most Canon lenses of any price), ultra light weight and ultra low price. Perfect as a normal lens for full-frame digital and film, and a short tele for 1.6x cameras. Excellent for use in low light; I prefer it to the faster 50mm f/1.4because this f/1.8 lens gives me more accurate autofocus."
