  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon 300c Specs as they come

My two cents

A) The codec is half the bit rate of DVC PRO HD, which is ancient. And not much better than the Sony F3's 35mb.
B) Its 4:2:2. Come on, at least 4:4:4 would have been a step closer to competing with shooting RAW.
C) 1080 is a dead or dying acquisition size.
D) For $16,000, how much better is this going to be than shooting with the 5DMII or even the 1Dx at $7K?
E) Having EOS or PL options is good, but not swappable. So pick one mount only.
F) 720p60 is feeling an awful lot like shooting SD these days, when I can shoot 100fps at 5K.

Overall I'm not impressed.

PS - is saying that a camera has timecode really a strong marketing point? Perhaps, when the 5DMII was the first camera in a while to NOT have it.
 
A little worried about the pricepoint of the scarlet now. I know it is way past the original $3k now but if this Canon is gonna retail for $16k and the Scarlet is over $10k, both are out of my reach.

I dont see a shoot ready scarlet being under 10k

RED is smart, just bad with backorders.. Don't worry.. It's the beauty of modules... get a little to start..
 
also, only DVINFO said a price.. we don't really know what the price is! I doubt its that much
