I gotta say, I was a bit disappointed with the original 24-70L, always felt it was a bit soft. The New II version is killer! Sharpness is on par with my 70-200L II. Will post some samples when I get a sec, but I'm really really liking this lens! It's a must upgrade. Though I was only able to score $1400 for my used 24-70L...still worth it if you ask me.

I own it.
The only problem is, if you zoom IN you will loose 1/2 stop of light.

Really? I own the original 24-70 and I don't see a loss of 1/2 a stop. Is this an issue with the newer lens?

I did notice that, but I will sacrifice that for the sharpness.

Huh? I thought it was 2.8 throughout the zoom range. How does it lose 1/2 a stop?
Comparatively speaking, have they made any improvements in terms of maintaining focus? Hated that about the v1. e.g. Compose shot at 35, zoom to 70, nail focus, zoom back to 35, out of focus -- ugh.

I will have to double check that. Though I had a crazy shoot the other day and had a much easier time focusing with this than the v1. Some of the sharpest stuff I've shot using still lenses.

Nice zoom but give me Zeiss ZE primes any day. What happened to RED PRO 17-50 zoom?

I have a Canon 24-70mm V2. It's a good lens, better than the first, but I still prefer the look I get from the Nikon's counterpart. Having said that, it still gets me the shots I want. Here's an example:
