  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can you reccommend a good production monitor?

I need to purchase a production monitor. Mainly for monitoring, clients , and pulling focus. I have a small hd 2403 hdr right now, but I want something else as the colors don't seem to be accurate. ( not sure what im doing wrong ) any ideas?
Preferably 20-24 inches, with lut support.

edit: Also is 4k necessary since the signal coming out of the red is 1080 and my vaxis system is 1080?

Atomos Sumo is ok for a client monitor on a budget. Pretty accurate, has lut support, HDR (never tested it thought). It also has a rec tally, so the client can watch recorded items on a monitor itself.

The downsides are - the screen is glossy, and running SDI to another monitor is problematic (seems it has no signal amp, or the amp is weak).

Otherwise TV LOGIC are a really popular choise on my market. Reliable, simple. Sony and Flanders are usually best for a high budget.

Sounds like it’s time to clear the credit card for another Chris group buy :)

I really hope we see a new generation of field monitors that have the industrial design of the SmallHDs, UHD rez, HDR (inc. HLG), battery power plate and built in vectorscope/waveform at rational prices. I don't expect a quality display to be $500, but bringing anything that cost more than $3,000 onto a chaotic set is, IMHO, pushing your luck.

Anything under 17" is sub optimal for UHD (2160P) and anything over 32" can be unwieldy.

Please offer multiple ports to support various flavors of SDI (3G, 6G and 12G), DP 1.4 and an HDMI 2.1 input. Yes, HDMI does not belong on set - that said, a professional product should offer great flexibility in usage. Feel free to put an "only in emergencies" label under the HDMI port ;-)

Cheers - #19
