Just wondering if we need lens support for a Raven for Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 (1.6kg)

Good topic,Andreas.
For widening it:what are the rules or principles to decide when we have to use a lens support with our canon lens mount?
Somebody?
Thanks by advance

All depends on what you are doing.

If you suport the lens and let the camera piggy back on the lens with a small battery and nothing more and you dont have any huge shakes etc. then I would say thats fine. And if you only keep camera on a tripod and not pushing on the lens or have huge gravity changes etc then I guess it´s fine to suport only the camera and let the lens hang in the mount only.

Normally i try to build something from the rods, using styrofoam on a rod mount or such to give long EF lenses a little bit of suport. If you use motors and such then yes I would say you need suport, or even with such long lens will move all over the place when pulling focus with motors.

So simply if you are careful no problem. If not yes suport is needed.

Also Sigma 150-600mm please

In general every EF lens that has a suport bracket kind of says that you should use suport, especially if you clamp on matte boxes etc. Not too difficult to have something made for a rod mount if you use the lens a lot. If its just for a few shots then no worries.

I have used the 160-600 on my Raven and I highly suggest using a rail system for getting the camera/lens balanced properly. It's a big boy. Maybe could get away with piggy backing but I wouldn't suggest doing it often.
