  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can RED save the Economy

Big Government is what is destroying the Economy. Too many people living off those few who actually produce. Many Graduates from College with no useful skills who then have to become employed by the Government. Quantitative easing which is destroying the currency and your future and your "investments".
All levels of Government from Local Town Councils to the White House are fleecing the taxpayer. It is all over the news and is common knowledge. RED is powerless, a paradigm shift is necessary. We need a Benjamin Franklin. We need strong leaders who care more about America than they care about their Government Job. With almost Fifty Percent of the Population living off the taxation of the other half, America may well be doomed. "China owns the Moon!"

Yes, indeed, semi-enslaved workers, a lower minimum wage, no medicare and ever worse schools, if that were even possible, and of course fewer environmental regulations, so that the geniuses who run large corporations can rule the citizenry unfettered - that's what America needs! Go Romney 2012!

Jay, I don't think so. Even if only he can tell, there have been deposits in advance :-) He has just managed them in the smartest way in order to finance it.

Let's be go way above a conservative guess and say they took 5000 deposits at $1000.... That's $5m.... That might sound like alot of cash, but I imagine it is a drop in the ocean, R&D wise.

There are other ways to cover it, future results included ;-)

EPIC-X in two words: brand loyalty. Jim's best marketing and sales tool(s). This doesn't come from sky, it is necessary to create it ; ) RED didn't come on a billionaire's whim but as a well succeeded business, above all :-)

Saving the economy means everyone, from the little guy on REDuser, to the Federal Govmt spends less than what they make. Debt vs. profit. Can we expect the government to magically start spending less? Yeah cause their real good at that... No, it's a simple Micro Econ. template, that starts with each and every household spending less than what they make and saving a percentage of what they earn. And part 2 of that is that we have to vote people into government that want to, and have a record of spending less. RED is pulling their weight, in this task. This is the reason many people are attracted to RED, because they lead the way, they are out in the front, and doing it in style!

That's simple micro-econ. But micro-econ doesn't necessarily work on a macro scale. In fact it often doesn't.

Over simplifying the world's problems doesn't work. Even on a small scale that doesn't work. If you have cancer it makes a ton of economic sense to spend a lot more than you are taking in. If you are starting a business it makes sense to run up debt in order to build capacity. If you are young it often makes sense to take out debt in order to get an education.

R&D often spends a lot more than it takes in for many years. If we shut down the department of transportation. Close all the interstates and call it mission accomplished you could watch the GDP plummet. That's an example of spending less costing you more. Or for instance if your car needed an oil change but your budget didn't have enough in it for an oil change... but your job depended on having a car. Not spending that money on the oil change would be a terrible decision micro-economically.

It's fun to say "hey I wish my taxes were lower and the government spent less" it's a lot less fun to see the results of that decision on your own life and others'.

Now we all know that I am not going to agree on building wealth with debt. It is stupid to think that we can borrow our way out of debt, it's like trying to dig your way out of a hole.
There is a reason this country is in the mess that it is in, and it is overspending, that is the only cause. All of the other issues that this country has would be relatively nothing if we didn't overspend as a whole. Building wealth with debt is stupid, and risky, and immature, and the people who do such have no desire to delay pleasure, they want more, now, now, now, and that is the reason they go into debt to try and sometimes build wealth. People these days want in 5 years what it took their parents 50 years to build up and acquire.
Closing the interstates... You are talking about things that pay for themselves, and we pay for in taxes. I am talking about excessive spending in government ventures that top hundreds of trillions of dollars that get nothing in return, like black budgets, foreign wars, debt to China, and so on. America is drowning in debt, and trying to borrow more money from China and other world powers to try to get out!
If my budget didn't have enough for an oil change it would mean that I was stupid, or didn't care, either one ending up in the same place, a broke down car. That is a bad analogy, because it is a cyclical event that happens every 3 months. What you mean to suppose is that if an emergency happened would i be able to cover the cost of repairing my car. We then go back to the saving principle. You need to have an emergency fund that you don't touch unless it's an emergency. So if my car broke down, and I... Let's say I had to get a new transmission which I did have to last summer, and it cost me $2500 bucks, then I would take the money out of my emergency fund.
The only reason people spend more than what they make is because it is now apart of the American culture to spend more than what you make! It is not because of need, it is because of want, pure and simple. When I didn't have money I didn't spend it, and when my savings account was dry I would replenish it, slowly yes, but all the same.
Getting the economy back on track is all about you and me, and the next door neighbor doing whats right financially every single day, and throughout the course of a lifetime, all the while teaching our children the same, so that they also do whats right financially, and as every producing member of society pulls their own weight we just may get out of this debt whole that America has dug itself into.

Wow... what a thread.

Capitalism, by its definition, depends on capitol. We are now in Debtism... a debt driven economy.

Everyone has an opinion... as do I. I just won't share it here...

Don't get me wrong I know RED can't single handedly save the economy, though I suppose the threads title dose say otherwise. I agree with Jim that we have become a debt driven economy. I had created this thread out of my frustration that we are no longer a production based economy but instead a speculation based economy where companies make their money by gambling on if companies that make things will be successful or not. While this can be a sign of a healthy economy, it is not a stable base for an economy to grow or recover with. I wanted to express that one of the reasons I love RED is because the make something and that I think they are doing it right by investing in making an amazing product and smartly marketing it. Honestly, how many of you ever though you would ever buy a $15,00+ or $35,000+ camera package during a recession?

I think camera guys are uniquely qualified to talk about these issues. At our hearts we are all entrepreneurs. We have to weigh the risk/cost of investing in gear and improving our skill sets with the rates we charge productions for using our gear and having us work on their sets. We have to think about how to market our skills and talents as well as convince productions the cameras we own are the best for the job. I was blessed when i was in college and my economics class wasn't just about learning terms but focused on us thinking about how to use the degree we were getting in our particular field of study in an entrepreneurial manner.

I want to thank everyone for voicing their opinions in the respectful manner they have. I know any discussion about the economy or politics can be a bit dangerous and divisive. But this is because we are talking not just about our lively hood and futures, but the prospects of future generations.

Spoken like a true businessman.

Too bad the politicians (both sides) don't get it.

I think you just did. :) And I think your opinion is valid, dept is bad, building up your own capital is good. So many things you can do wit large capital that you could not possibly do with a huge dept.
