  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can I get reference audio with a tiny mic like these?

Jarred said phantom power will be coming soon in an update, so I wouldn't place too much weight on having a mic with built in power unless you need it NOW, also if you want to go a step up someone posted a tutorial on how to get a rode mic working with a scarlet (those have built in power)

This one will work for sure, it has one of the balanced input contacts already "grounded" by it's jack design and because it's electret mic - you don't need any phantom power. But sounds going to be pretty sh-h-h-h-itty-y-y-y-y :) Can be considered as "rough scratch" sound, nothing else. Any others from this post won't work cause they kinda "stereo" and with balanced input electrical signal will be almost completely eliminated, u still can hear something, but not even close to say "it is working". With unbalanced input you electirically have one "signal" and one "ground" with balanced it is like "anode signal" "cathode signal" and "ground". If you connecting unbalanced source to balanced input you have to "ground" "anode" or 'cathode" (which is NOT recommended, but could be pretty safe in THIS particular case cause THIS mic is kinda "passive source" it can't zap your camera inputs) but in perfect world you have to use conversion transformer, to have balanced input electrically isolated from unbalanced source.

This one works pretty good (for $250 shotgun mic:) I have one for semi-scratch sound
(means in some cases you can use it for actual audio, but better to use more professional mic for the actual on-set audio recording with dedicated separate audio recorder)
