Lomo 35OPF18-1 20-120MM anamorphic zoom

I am a Red Scarlet owner and I am looking for a Zoom lens... Will this lens do the trick.. Have any of you guys used one before.. ? Thanks

Lens is nice, it have macro mode and u can use rear ana attachments with it, also u can find X1,5 rear attachment and u will have 30-180, or X2 so 40-240, this lens have a smoothest zoom ever in the world, that makes transportation a bit scary,(lens can zoom in the box by its self, and hit front glass while zooming, can brake it) but if u have nice case with tight rubber , all be fine, optically it not nice as cooke 20-120, but near to it, most of people don’t want to use because its to large and heavy, i have this lens and i use it sometimes, reason i still have it - need ana zoom.
if u need 20-120 and u don’t care about weight take it , its cheap now, olso nice invesment, sometimes i can see people running for this lens like mad

Very big and heavy lens, you need at least a 6x6 matt box which is very expensive along with the big ND's.

I have this lens and it is a great lens, especially if you get a good one with an anamorphic adapter. I have spend a lot getting mine fully restored and its pinsharp wide open.

However i have built this lens out of about 3 so you will need to put some work into finding a good one. As far as i know its the first inner focus zoom lens ever made and thats why the zoom is so smooth and holds the focus perfectly.

With rear anamorph adapter it is 40-240.
One of best zooms, especially with anamorph adapter, pretty fast, constant focus during zooming, pretty good "cinematic" picture.
I don't understand why "not so nice like cooke? It is sometimes much better than cooke if you get fine unit! - sharpness is amazing, sometimes better than from LOMO primes, somebody write about good performance of zooms only in middle. Here is from 25-30 to 105-110 - out of questions. not possible to find better especially with this proice range. From my test with huge beasts even from total high end like Master Zoom, don't be affraid about effect - good lens at all

A rear anamorphic lens makes no sense to me unless you are shooting on film.

1) you will not get the artifacts, bokeh, etc.

2) you will suffer quite a bit of light loss

3) you will suffer quite a crop factor due to inadequate sensor height

4) you will suffer a big loss in resolution in relation to reason #3

The look will be a spherical lens look. You should either get a lens with a front ana design or shoot with sphericals. Front ana design will still suffer crop and resolution loss but you'll get the cinematic ana look. A Lomo Foton w/front ana attachment might be your best option - if you can aquire on in good condition.

Well, all the above is correct. You also do loose a stop when using the rear Ana (or any of the extenders)... but the optical quality is great.

Basically, this is a hidden gem. Get one whilst they're cheap(er) as they'll soon rise it price.

Gabriel - didn't now you actually picked one up... looks like you tested it and pretty much agreed with my findings :)

Rick - you're right on all counts... but if you want the Techniscope 2 perf look, this is would provide that, as you'll get a more conventional spherical lens with the wider ana composition (sans the bokeh/flares).

If you get this lens you would have the ability to shoot either and even both to really extend your focal range. Make sure the seller tapes the rings up; this lens has a bad history for crashing the elements during shipping.

I appreciate you guys' input.. I t means quite a lot.. I've been working and saving for a Cooke but I'm still far off.. But At the same time, from all of your input the Lomo 35OPF18-1 20-120MM anamorphic zoom sounds similar to a fragile woman...

Hey guys, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you cannot "plug-and-play" the anamorphic adapter with this lens. I think it needs bench-work, and I'm not talking pounds baby, pounds... Speaking of pounds, the lens is super duper heavy and needs significant support. Rick is correct about the near-pointlesness of shooting anamorphic with this lens though. Find a Foton (which has similar focal range BTW). Beware, the Foton is very problematic and needs TLC up the ying-yang. Also, that lens breathes quite a bit when you focus.

"The lens is currrrrsed... but it comes with a free Frogert. The Frogert is also currrrrsed... but it has sprinkels. The sprinkles are also currrrrsed..."

I highly recommend Olex to service your Lomo glass. He is an expert, a consummate professional and a super nice guy to boot! Sometimes a slow turn-around, but hey, perfection takes time. And, he is not cursed like the Frogert.

My .02!

Brandon is definitely bringing fullness to the discussion here with great points. I have experience with two Foton ana purchases so far. One is very easy to work with and gets images as sharp as my sharpest square front prime. The other was a nightmare. I'm guessing it's a pig in polk with these.

Hi Andy!

How are you?
Yes - I get one and tested - cinematic look, need more light (but it is obvious) but pretty sharp, I was surprised, because used with RF primes (F50 and F75) - and with some shoots with old pergamin book zoom was better option. Same color, match, quite easy to montage. Second observation - oval bokeh with macro - small blick with oval shape -detal, but nice. difference is with artiafcts, but with rear anamorph is obvious too. In my opinion - but your is superior, and waiting for - even with rear but picture quality, cinematic look and precision of picture from 18-1 it is just better than from foton. Foton have front element, but is softer, maybe more dramatic with fast shoots, flares, etc but not compare with this monster. I was surprised wit constant sharpness - do not expected with this lens. Same like with macro function. Summary - long range of possibilities, beauty picture, "little" too big,
And complete not understand about Cooke. In my opinion both of them are warm, rest depends of technical condition of unit - very good Cooke vs Lomo after hammer action - result is natural. Reverse situation - reverse opinion. I am almost sure that 18-1 and all LOMOs with optical characteristic is copy of Cooke (not Zeiss characteristic at all) nd sometimes much better.
What is your opinion about? -
What is your opinion? Means difference with picture structure beetwe front anamorph and rear?
Regards
