Can an Epic or Scarlet be used for online Steaming?

Has anyone used a Red camera for streaming online? We are looking at equipping a news operation for online streaming. They would need about 4 cameras used in a studio/broadcast setup and the footage would most likely stream at 720p or maybe 1080.

Thanks for any feedback. Or, if you could recommend a better camera platform for this, I would appreciate.

Yes, Scarlet and Epic can Output clean feeds in 1080 or 720p and could therefore be used for streaming, but thats a bit of overkill since you don´t use the full power of the camera which lies in the R3D Raw Files.
For purely streaming i´d look into other cameras like the Blackmagic cameras which are a fraction of the cost.

Yes, in fact I just used my Epic-W for livestreaming to YouTube. I had bought the Blackmagic Web Presenter (which makes any SDI/HDMI camera into a "webcam") and it worked like a charm (looked amazing in 720p!)

Super easy to set up:

1. Attach power to Blackmagic Web Presenter; Attach USB cable from Web Presenter to the laptop/pc/computer
2. Attach Epic-W via SDI to Blackmagic Web Presenter (for video only)
3. Attach audio source to Blackmagic Web Presenter (I used a stereo external mic, XLR > RCA input into the web presenter)

I then used OBS and XSplit to drive the live feed with my graphical elements.

Thanks! I've already put in a feature request with Blackmagic on improving the Web Presenter - such as, I wish it did 1080p, wish it had stereo XLR ports and lastly got rid of the active fan inside of the unit so make it silent. Just did another livestream with the Epic-W connected to it and was again amazing looking in the 720p YouTube stream.

We use our Scarlet-MX for streaming at Twitter. It's great to have so many HD-SDI output options. And the colors look great. I wouldn't dare recommend a Black Magic camera, the color science is a mess.

Hi Navin - so I've used both OBS & XSplit and really they are both almost exactly the same except that XSplit unlocks extra features (60fps + more) when you pay for the license. You can download them both for free and see which one you like better.
