Summer Camp for the Digital FilmMakers of tomorrow - taken to an entirely new level!

for those that know me, you know I tend to get pretty excited about all things RED... but this I'm really, really excited about!

looking forward to your feedback, and seeing many of your kids in camp this August with us.

+ Ted

OMG LOL i thought you were joking.

IM IN.

OMG LOL i thought you were joking.

I told him it should be in the woods or a park. The problem with "camping" on the studio lot is .... you need the union pyro guys to help make the smores.

It's gonna be great. If only I could wind back the clock and be 9 years old ....

Excellent idea Ted. I'll be sending my kids as soon as they're old enough!! They'll be able to teach the other kids how to shoot test charts!

Graeme

Can you make one for 20-25 year olds

haha i think thats called reduction? :P

16-21 should have its own camp RED...that'd be so awesome!

I'm quickly leaving that gap though so sometime soon would be nice xD

while cute and fun to ponder about a 9 year old shooting on the most advanced digital cinema camera, this just seems unneeded.

I think a better age group would be 15-21 or so, with high school kids getting excited about getting jobs or studying film at universities. I do not want to suggest that they aren't excited about filmmaking, but I do not know if a 9 year old could sit through learning about such intense camera technology. Just my opinion.

In my film major at UC Santa Cruz there are students who have said "I don't want to have to care about the camera, or I want it to just do everything for me on auto!" so how many kids who want to make films actually care about the process? I hope this succeeds though, it would be a great oppourtunity for anyone 9-15 who actually follows along with the technology ands knows RED's significance! good luck!

While it is true that the EPIC is most advanced digital cinema camera on the planet at the moment - I can assure you - I could teach a 9 year old to shoot with it.

Anthony,

Yeah... not trying to diss you, but... you clearly don't have any 9-yr old kids. : )

It's an incredible idea and opportunity. Kids at that age are sponges and will learn anything if properly motivated and taught.

Wow, this is unreal. Feels so non-Red of a thing, yet so awesome that you guys would take the time to teach stuff like this to youngsters. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Great idea...Im booking my kids. Since I live in Louisiana, can I just fly them in to LAX and let them spend nights at Jarred's place?
They are good kids I promise.

My 6yr old can update firmware on an Epic, with supervision, of course. It's a surprisingly easy camera to operate.

You know, in all seriousness this seems like a valid problem. I have a friend in Pittsburgh who I'll bet would just love to send his kids to Camp RED, but would have a tough time with getting them trustworthy accomodation.

Of course Greg, you might want to check out Jarred's rumored driving habits before placing your kids with him :). His "Sedate" car is a Supercharged Range Rover Sport with special exhaust ... I'll leave his normal transportation vehicle to your imagination :).

Hopeful people might note that apparently there are special arrangements coming up for Week Three but it would be a pity to miss the other two weeks ...

Wow. Amazing idea, Ted! I wish I had something like this when I was a kid. You have always been great to us young guys starting out...getting them started even earlier seems like a great key to success.

Love it. :}
