Has anyone experienced a camera self reboot?
I;ve only had my camera for two weeks now, and it's happened twice on two different shoots... once while sitting idle, and once in the middle of a shot.

(Which really sucked.)

Both times, the camera shuts itself down, reboots, and comes up again entirely blue, as if only the blue channel is showing. Shututing down and rebooting again gets me back to normal, but I DO NOT want this to occur again, and I can't find any trigger...
Any thoughts?

We're having exactly this issue and are trying to nail it down. Hasn't happened since we went back to build 16.

This has happened to me a few times as well. Not on my cameras though. We just finished a feature and it rebooted probably about 4 or 5 times and a few times mid take. Our cameras though have been rock solid so far.

You don't need to reboot again when the blue channel is showing. Just unplug the wire attach to the lcd and plug it back at the end of the booting. It work for me.
As for the shuting down it could be battery plate related.
Good luck.

same problem

same problem

Yeah, it happened to me a couple times, and, as you mention it, I think that it happened using the battery in the red craddle.

Try to move the battery while the cam is on. If you manage to turn the cam off, it's most likely the plate.

In that case, get it swapped by RED, it's a known bug.

CK,

If it appears that you have Red cardle with faulty battery plate just order a spare battery plate from Red store and it is easy to swap.

Original battery plates didn't lock properly the battery near the connector.
Newer ones do have two "rails" on both sides of the connector and it is more reliable now.

Fast solution is to bend the battery plate contacts a bit.
They are really collection of sevaral narrow metal plates if you look close.

We've had it happen here in the office with the camera sitting on a desk; nobody was touching it.

Both times it happened when nobody was physicaly touching the camera. First was during setup, when camera was just sitting on its tripod... I happened to be discussing the camera with a crewmember while we were admiring it from about 2 feet away, and it rebooted... which was freaky to say the least. The second time it happened, we were in the middle of a somewhat long test take, camera wass recording, but again, nobody touching it, and it rebooted. Both times in controlled studio situations.

For the record, I have submitted a tech support request and still have yet to hear back... so RED tech support, if you are out there, Please Contact Me asap.

Just had this happen twice so far this morning having switched the camera to build 17 so the shoot can have user defined guides. Hasn't happened before with this camera ever. Exactly as others said, not touching the camera, turns off and restarts and the LCD is blue.

I'd say this is a build 17 issue as I've never experienced it before. Might have to go back to 16 if it does it again.

Did it a third time so I've gone back to build 16... Great start to the day :)

One thing it also does before rebooting is flashes up a white overlay that looks almost like an eye (Kinda freaky!) it flashes about 5 times and then vanishes before it reboots. It's almost like pulling out the LCD or EVF and the monitoring resetting so that the HD-SDI has the guides and what-not.

Out other camera went on the last beta build of build 17 (About a day before the release build came out) and it hasn't had the same problem. Maybe something changed between the last beta and release? Or maybe it's just something that happens to certain cameras for whatever reason?

Using a build 16 RED. Same thing as reported above . . . automatically restarts itself and LCD goes blue. This is the first shoot for this camera and has happened 8 times in the past 48 hours. We are primarily running from the AC power supply but 2 of the 8 reboots have happened while on the RED battery in the Vlock cradle. i don't think it's a battery or power connector issue but rather something software related. Is it possible that it is to do with heat build up?

We are tracking this thread, guys, and trying to replicate what you are seeing here. As soon as we have any conclusions, you guys will know.
