So I'm wondering what people are planning to do for camera insurance on their new Scarlets. I'm in Los Angeles, and I'm thinking about renting the camera out on the side. Could anybody recommend some good insurance plans or policies with optimum coverage?

There is a lot of topics of this throughout the forum.

THE AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHIC ASSOCIATION, become a member and then get their insurance. Best deal around.

That's PPA.com?

Why is it so cheap? I have gotten quotes from local insurance companies at around $3800/year. This was only around $380. What's the deal? Is this just for still photography? Or does it matter?

Can I still add people to the policy when needed (rental houses, locations, etc.)?

I'm very interested at this low price...mind blowing.

No, so their membership is not insurance. It's membership ... I was quoted for $100,000 of gear 850 dollars a year. ... So Total is about $1100-1200

I was actually looking at the 1 Million General Liability.

I hadn't gone into the Pro Care Plus stuff, though their 13 dollars a month appears to cover up to 15K worth of gear.

Regardless, 850 a year is a steal.

Any Australians have a preferred insurance company for equipment + third party rentals?
I was looking at Action Insurance Brokers.

Thanks
Best

New Thread on insurance:

Currently I found 15ish threads on insurance with only a few viable companies. There is a reason people keep asking, not much out there but more important, little valued customer feedback (who do we trust).

Isn't the forum OVERFLOWING with this topic? if you use the search button, you'll find a lot and long threads on this with links i bet.

There IS topics? This are a good topic.

I use Heffernan insurance and have for years. I've never filed a claim so I don't know how good they are at that. They have a new web interface: insuremyequipment.com.

Advice on renting out the camera

Advice on renting out the camera

I'm awaiting my camera. I want to be able to rent out the camera to get some money back on it. Does anyone have any good advice about doing this right to protect myself?

Thanks.

I just went through this. Dewitt Stern had great prices. About $400 for $25k coverage/$500 Deductible. But they are pretty bare bones, lots of exclusions. Penny offered someone similar for almost the exact same price but she said she doesn't recommend it to clients unless they recognize how minimal the coverage is.

I finally went with a Heffernan plan brokered by Penny. Unlike Insuremyequipment.com she actually responded to phone calls and was really helpful. For $1500 a year I get $25k/$500 deductible coverage for my production, $25k for equipment rented out (I guess in case their insurance falls through for some reason) and $25k for "conversion" which is to say fraudulent rental. So about 3x as much as straight up production converage but really important if you rent.

Conversion coverage provides coverage for those items you rent out in the event that they are not returned. If someone signs your contract, gives you a fake CC number and then dissapears into the night with you equipment you'll have coverage for the loss.
