My camera stopped powering up today. I contacted support and they responded pretty quickly.

As per their instructions, I detached everything from the camera, besides the power source, and then tried to boot up. This didn't work.

I then pressed the power button a few times to release any possible retained charge and this didn't work either.

I also tried connecting different fully charged batteries including the AC power adaptor and, still, camera does not activate.

I'm probably going to have to send the camera back to RED so they can take a look at it, but before I do that, I wanted to see if anyone on the forum knew any other tricks to solving this problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

"Mylrea's" camera was exhibiting signs of starting up but only went as far as activating the fan and LCD. Mine won't activate at all. Totally dead.

Fortunately, "Mylrea" was able to get his camera to boot with the trick that "rgdfilmsRED" suggested. I tried the same thing (Unplug the power cord. Hit the power button 5 times, once per second. Try to boot it up.) Didn't work. Red Support suggested a similar thing by advising me to repeatedly punch the power button to release any possible retained charge.

I appreciate your help, anyway.

My camera stopped powering up. Completely dead.

I anticipate this issue to be an isolated one. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm already in contact with RED support, who responded to my call pretty quickly and are giving me their full attention. Great group of guys over there.

My intention for this posting is not to complain, but to try to gauge the frequency of this issue.

Thanks in advance.

I am having the exact same problem. What was your fix? I have my camera with a client doing a camera prep and they have a long shoot starting in mere days, and I really need my RED to work for them.

I had to ship the camera back to RED for service. They were very fast in taking care of me. I had my camera back within days. Reach out to them asap!

i have called, and left a message, and posted here, and also sent in a support ticket on red.com, and i eagerly await them to have a working camera back in my hands as well. i look forward to the legendary 'quick service' by RED I have heard so much about (and NEED so badly right now).

I have a six-month rental at stake, obviously i don't want to lose this, and have this customer be unhappy with RED. If I have a working RED in their hands by monday or tuesday of next week, i think they will be happy.

What was the problem in the end with yours? Did you need to send just the body, or the batteries, etc. as well?

I only had to send the body.

Where's your client at? If you're near NJ, I can probably help you out for the amount of days RED needs to service your camera. I will need to know more about the project, though (rigs used with it, etc..)

I'm one that strongly believes that one hand washes the other. In other words, I help you out today, you help me out tomorrow.

Note: I won't ship my camera and I'll want to be on set with it.

Red's representatives in major locations around the world.

I had a charger problem and Red is super fast in solving the problem.
However I think they need representatives in major locations around the world who has technical service.
It will also be for their benefit. I can't imagine sending a charger all they way to California just because of the fuse inside.
Could be that some major problems can be taken only at Red center, but minors should be taken care of at other locations.

Hey Skipdevil,

Hire a camera off another user for the period, say a week with the possibility of an extension. Do it now and take away the stress of wondering how long it will take for your camera to be serviced. This will show the hirer that you are reliable and have some back up and chill you out.

Just my opinion dude.

I'm sure someone close to you, geographically of course, will do a good cross hire rate, especially if you agree the same with them vice versa. Good Luck
