  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Calling Epson...

If any other Redusers are coming to InterBEE next week let me know via PM, maybe we can all hook up for some sort of party :)

Cheers,

Paul

Regarding 4K panels:

JVC has a 4K projector on sale. As I have been told its mostly sold to rich home users, regardless of its still high price. Replacement for the 5th Porsche...

They also have working 8K prototypes. They are well prepared.

And their projectors are widely used in grading suites, so its reference class. And high end home user device class. Most professional companies actually can't afford it, budget wise. That is really amazing.

I told them a couple of times that the price needs to come down to a range, say, like the RED ONE body. Then it would sell like hell...

I wonder what the new 4K DLPs will make with that market.

Just sayin,

Axel

Heck, I'd just like to upgrade from my 720 projector to a 1080. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a 1080 projector?

I'm looking at the new pani ae4000.
Great price point and fantastic images if the reviewers are to be believed.
Colourimetry is great, 2.35 lens memory and reasonable lumens too.
Prices as low as 2000 USD.

4k but 4:3?

4K all the way

4K all the way

Projector applications continue to expand.

In addition to being used for business presentations, projectors are gaining wider use in the classroom, in auditoriums and at big events.

With a resolution of nearly 8.85 megapixels, 4K panels offer four times the resolution of full HD (1920 × 1080), making them ideal for the high resolutions required by special applications such as industrial design, architectural design and simulations...

I also found this to be very interesting from their commentary, as it mirrors some of our thoughts on RED RAY opportunities.

i.e. 4K resolution is not just for cinema (of all kinds), but will also be applied to new corporate and industrial applications too.

But wait... I thought the guys at c.com said it was going to be "decades" before 4K displays come to homes?

I can't wait to hear the price. RED Rocket + one of these babies and you are doing some serious work on location, especially if the color comes close. Are they going to HAVE to be big? Is there a chance they might be small?

How can Epson release a 4k projector and be serious about it, and not contact RED for source material?

Well, not sure we would know whether they have or haven't. But even if there was no contact with RED, 4K material can come from a variety of places. And for all you know, they may own a RED. But you can generate 4K material out of a 3D application, After Effects, etc.

Also, there's a fair number of films that were shot on film, which have been scanned and/or digitally remastered/restored in 4K. The advantage for marketing being, of course, that people are much more likely to recognize the footage and see the difference between 4K and the original, even if it's not necessarily a pristine, clean, digital image.

We are very happy to see Epson's announcement of a 4K projector that will be shown this month in Japan. Now someone has to tell them to use the RED Reel for their demos! Epson does a great job with projectors and we think this will be great for the industry. 4K all the way, baby!

Someone let us know if they got the message... :-)

Jim
Someone? Do you want me to tell them?

How do you know that Epson itself does not have at least one RED ONE camera? With their R&D budget I would be surprised otherwise...

Waiting the answer...

By the way...a little outtopic but i want to be TATOOED as well ;)

I don't know if your guys know this, but Epson is pretty much the industry leader in LCD panel technology for front projection. If you buy a Panasonic or Sanyo projector for example, it will use an Epson panel.

Even if Epson themselves doesn't push out a product, they have relationships with a ton of manufacturers who are always looking for the next big thing in display tech.

My brother owns an Epson front projector and really likes the output. They usually are among the leaders in price/performance.
