Hi,

Close to buy PL lenses and getting more PL optic possible budgets.
I have not tried any motion mounts.

Should I go for a PL motion mount? I would love to have built in ND, but are there any major cons?
I have an Epic W.

The Motion Mount brings along a lot of advantages, but some cons:

You lose 1.6 stops immediately - so low light capture is especially affected.

If you want to shoot wide open with over 0.7 ND dialed in, you may notice a different out of focus look.

Some PL lens rear element can impact the front optical surface of the MM resulting in damage.

I have found both types of mounts to be essential tools in the kit package.

The global shutter (square) works at 8kWS at 1/50th of a second for 24fps. Taller resolutions or longer exposures do not work and split your frame. Soft shutter is even more demanding.

I think before getting a motion mount you allready have the normal mount. Going with only the motion mount has to many drawbacks. Light loss, strange out of focus wide open and it interfear with lenses protruding far into the camera. So buy both is the answer that dont factor in economy.

A step down from motion mount is to buy the kipper tie nd's.

or simply work as normal with filters infront of the lens. I just bought the WD dual rubber filter holder set which works great on pretty much any lens and only cost lik 300 usd.

Thanks for the input. I will go for a regular PL mount first. What is the big difference between the titanium and mg mount? Magnesium is lighter and stronger? You get the same info? I can find the TI PL mount quite cheap here used in Norway.

I have a matte box with dual filter holders, but will check out the dual rubber filter holder set Björn. You ment from Wooden Camera?

I think the MG is slightly different in the flocking but not sure. The MG has captive screws which is nice. But Both works just the same if you ask me. There is also third party PL mounts but the RED ones are the only ones with electronics. Dont know exact what lenses they work with execpt for RPP´s.

And it is in the house. Got a really nice deal on a PL mount.

Luckily I have a job tomorrow with an Alexa Mini and Cooke Anormphic lenses. Think I will have to try them out on my own Red Epic W between after work and delivery.
