  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

…to a software developer the words “Pay Attention” (even without Ritalin and 15 espressos) and the word “Library”…seem to mean something.

OK so is there part of the RED “platform” that is almost completely opened up so developers and others can basically hack the camera anyway we wish? (Beyond the SDK for REDCODE). That would be freaking amazing and that would be POWER TO THE PEOPLE. I have to say as someone that has to engineer things both in deep SW systems AND hardware the proprietary nature of most camera and sensor based systems is VERY frustrating (actually sucks) as you can never quite get want you want. Something that allows one to ACTUALLY talk to the blinking camera would make a world of difference. Just so you are NOT stuck with someone else’s idea of what should …be or not be….”that is the question…”. “Alas poor Canon I knew him well…”

(Talk about opening the flood gates, that would be a hell of genie that would never make it back into the bottle).

In other words it’s like the i-pod or android that zillions of “apps” or camera apps “Capps” start to appear. This would be a totally different frontier. RED LIBRARY… (That would be a revolution)

The “OTHERS” could never in a million years do that.

If that is remotely the case (and not just the dog stealing the cat’s catnip), then I will definitely be singing the nah-nah, nah nah nah-nah, weh hey ya, ne a yay (song with appropriate hand gestures to go with the song).

If this is even remotely half true then PAY ATTENTION is the operative word. Just image what you could do or could be done...

I thought the EPIC was big news... How can a 2/3 inche chip camera with lessor specs be bigger than the EPIC launch... ?

I'm really looking forward to this though ... because it must be bigger than just the SCARLET though...

I'm suspecting the word "PLAYBACK" will be used... or issued on the same day I hope. (Fingers crossed)...
4k Projectors released.. :))
or even better yet.. ALL BACK ORDERs will be up to date as you order your cameras! :)))))))) :thumbup:

I'm about to burst right now myself!
November 3rd is a few days before my birthday. So I'm hoping to order a nice little present then.

But the real reason I'm vibrating right now is that i'm waiting on FedEx to put my Epic X on a truck and drive it over to me. Customs clearance delay, tap tap tap....

In a nod to David Battistella's 3,000th post Vow of Silence. I'm saving my fast approaching 1000'th post to make my own special announcement : )

Software, software tools and much more open architecture.

If you for example look at all the brands of advanced cameras (especially stills), the ones that survive are the ones that invested most heavily in software development and more open tools. The companies that did not, are currently on death row (and paying the price).


SONY, CANON and the other guys are not very good at software (or as good as they need to be); these companies have not and do not provide development tools unless one is extremely persistent, well connected and have multi-million dollar deals on the table.

If we have a more open architecture and different flavors of software interfaces from APIs (and other middle where) to something that a VFX guy or enthusiast and general professional can drive around the block etc. then you have the same effect in terms of apps and control that you would have with for example the i-phone, i-pad, and Android type devices.

Hardware is meaningless/very restricted unless you have good software tools and you put these tools in the hands of the “people” or 3rd party etc developers. NOV 3rd?...??? (pay attention???)

That would be a super big deal. Really the last barrier (just about) removed.

If Scarlet is open, then that’s BIG…that would be MORE EPIC THAN EPIC (seriously)!!!!

(some of you won't get that right away but if that's the case you will see when amazing capabilities are unlocked, that's real power, power to the people...).

"people power" will make the difference...

When they say the cameras have brains they are not kidding…and when they say never out of back order that’ll be why. Never ever ever….

Probably because you have one camera that will mean the world to several thousand users.
And another that may well end up meaning the world to several hundred thousand users... over time... as they build their library...he he he...

Genuine democratisation for cinema aspiring film makers world wide is an incredible achievement.
Bigger even than the wonder that is the EPIC??

I think the importance of the news will be more about its implications on the direction of Red than on the specs of Scarlet. JMHO.
