  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 4 is almost here....

We are working on that.. wont be in this build but its a valid point..but there is no reason why you cant have both :)

Operating systems take time to perfect, look at Vista ! - 20 years on and they have almost got something monkey proof.

There is a universal backpack/cheeseplate module adapter buried in there somewhere as well :)

Good!

The idea that Alexa "is simple and works" and the Epic is "hard and buggy" probably has had at least as much to say as many image tests when the decission has ended up being Alexa.

But then again, THAT has been Arris driving argument for the Alexa, even though it really isn't if you are to shoot offspeed (reboot to highspeed mode, anyone...) or you want to shoot RAW.

And I have watched how people fumble with the menus.

Userexperience is an important thing, too...

yup.. we get it. Its great to have the speed and power of a Ferrari but sometimes people want to just relax and drive a volvo... in more ways than one. Its an easy problem to solve.

Jarred how many colored Epic's do you/Red have? I know of Stormtropper ,The yellow one, a Red one, and now Green. is there any more? ;)

O there is a few.. Jim has a silver one but it's mostly my bad habit.

Well jarred it's not a "Bad" habit but if you ever need to start leaning off of the habit i will take one off your hands ;)

P.S do you have a Green 9.0in screen yet?

I asked a DP the other day, why don't you use the EPIC?
he siad...
"I don't even know how to turn the thing on let alone understand the ridiculously complex menu system, Alexa is so much easier"
Well he is right on that point...

Not that Im complaining, I understand it all. :)

Looking forward to the update. :)
Thanks Jarred

It's difficult. I hear the complains from Camera assists and so on all the time... Red is so dumb etc. Then in the next sentence or so they explain that they know the camera since they worked with it on one day shoot a few monts back.

It's scarry to see how low level of knowledge is acceptable among camera crew. If I would translate it into post it would be: since I been working on flame on a daily basis for 15 years I should be able to swap that setup for nuke just over night and continue to do what I did the day before in the flame and I should have the right to charge my normal full rate while I desperately trying to find my ways trough the menues.

Hello Jarred, is the Redmote Pro coming soon ? Is it a priority for RED at this time ? Any " onscreen tracking focus" system in the pipe ? Many thanks for build 4 !!!!

He he, reminded me of when I used to spin 360's on the Testarossa, and then make it go strait as an Arrow, while some of my buddies, all they could was just make it spin around, as they couldn't keep that Horsepower at bay and keep the car going on a strait line... ;)

There was just simply too much power to the Torque that got all of it on to the Ground, and most people not having the driving experience how to handle a Clutch system, just could not drive it... Years later, Problem solved, now all Ferraris, come with a computerized Clutch system, and a switch control to choose Driving experience one wants to have... I guess Epic is about to get the same thing done so that even the Alexa DP's can soon use EPIC too... ;)

Hi Jarred

Looking good!!

Is the power out on the +1 5v so we can keep the Redmote charged when there is a battery on the back? Or 12v? if 12v what can I hang of there load wise?

If it is 12v please tell me you have a 5v out on the new battery plate ;-)!!!

thanks

Michael

PS really looking forward to ramping (depsite what the young IT half savy think... you can't do it in post!)... interesting that the Alexa wont ramp when Arri owned it as a device when shooting film.

And I gotta tell you.. This is one of those "new camera" builds. So much new stuff in here it's boggling.

Had to laugh at "Gestures". What, the camera now has an attitude? I don't want my camera flippin' me off whenever it feels like.

I like Mark's idea of color selection, but it would be fodder for other camera companies to poke fun at. "Do you want a Tonka toy or a real camera?" sort of thing. I vote Tonka, and would like mine in digi camo to go along with the other personalization I have on my camera.

Cool, so many stuff in this one picture, what a tease. I knew we will get something for xmas. :) Great job RED and thanks for the update Jarred.

I Love it... By the way may I know when? Thanks Jim...

i want the OD one for shooting in Afghanistan, so cool, the +1 Module is a must have , will make the run N gun setup soooo sweet!

Re: Having a separate/easier alternative menu system like Alexa (not that I'm complaining).

Good point regarding the menu, Mark.

Well done on listening as usual, Jarred. Keep on rockin' it.
