Is there a summary of new features known so far anywhere?

What I have read:
- Flip screen
- Interval timer. Is this confirmed?

- Pre role. Is this confirmed. How long will it preroll be? Sounds wonderful if it's in
- Some power management, maybe a low power mode
- speed ramping

Anything I missed?

Btw anyone else that feels that deleting files and deleting out after end/start point would be useful?
In the jungle it will be very useful to be able to cut out 10 minutes of boring shooting if we captured 20 seconds that was awesome.

Looks fantastic!
Best

On a discussion of another camera elsewhere that also uses SSDs this function was discussed, and the way SSDs apparently deal with data was brought up, and that in many cases allowing clip delete rather than a full format could degrade performance leading to dropped frames and corruption.

Andreas, that's exactly what Red's Pre-Record implementation does - at least how it works on Red One. If you're sitting in a hide waiting for the lion to grab the gazelle, hit Pre-Record and sit back and wait. When he attacks, hit record again and it starts the Recording from the previous 30 seconds or whatever option you've selected, rolling from there until you Stop again. The 'wasted' ten minutes before hand is not written to the file structure so you don't waste the space.

Delete on camera - I don't want to have any way of deleting footage on camera. It's an accident waiting to happen and you just KNOW some AC is going to accidentally delete a million dollar take one day if Red implements it. Luckily Red feel the same way I do, so I can sleep easy at night ;)

HTH!

Cheers,

Paul :)

Thanks for the info Paul!!

I understand the do not delete a million dollar shot by mistake philosophy. But maybe this could be something that could be enabled for "power users" for example it could be a password protected feature that only you have the password for.

If I'm out lugging in the forest by myself doing lots of tests it would be very useful, for example I film a lot of clouds and many of them are not so good. Remember a 512GB SSD drive only holds about 1-2 hours of material so you would need 3 of them to shot a whole day outdoors if you dont have any edit station with you.
Just explaining my point of view :D

I think there is more to it as you fragment the ssd when/if you delete some clips and leave others. I think I read something about it here. So for that reason the delete clip has not been implemented as I understood.
One way to get around it is to use smaller cards, almost one for each long take and reformat when the take is bad.

There shouldn't be any problems as long as the SSD gets formatted regularly, which it usually does after every copy.

I'd love to be able to delete single takes and it annoys me that when I know a take has zero use, it takes away space on the card, will increase copy times, data space and time to look through the footage later just to throw it out again.

It could be an option to use or not and like Andreas said there could be some kind of protection for those who want to be sure nothing gets deleted accidentally.

Yup, this really annoys me. Everything is always about 24, forgetting that most of the world are 25.

Yea it feels little like that sometimes. Hoping for 50fps 3k in this build.

And I gotta tell you.. This is one of those "new camera" builds. So much new stuff in here it's boggling.

So Jarred, is the "pre-record" like a picture cache? That would be SO AWESOME! That REALLY works amazingly well to shoot sports... aim the camera, follow the action, if the play sucks... don' t hit record! If it does, grab it afterwards! If this is indeed a picture cache... how long is the buffer? Thirty seconds? That would be ideal!

Care to elaborate on the ramp settings?

Thanks!

Could i order a custom paint job... Ill pay.

+! on that! I'll pay too! I'd love my own company color! If not, I'll take your OD green! Or White... we've discussed that before! I live in Phoenix, a brighter, lighter color would help in the blazing sun!

Curt, that's exactly the way pre-record works. RED One already had/has it with settings for how long a buffer you want. SO glad that Epic is finally "catching up" to the RED One in this regard. ;-)

It will let you know if your current Sensor [T]emperature or [E]xposure Time is too far off of your current calibration parameters.

Trent,

That's bad ass! Thanks for that!

Thumbnails in preview/playback browsing?? !!

OOOOH! I'm with you! That would absolutely awesome! We're inching closer and closer to NO ONE being able to touch this camera! If some of these "small" things we ask for happen... none of the other manufacturers can compete!

Having come from a "four letter word" camera company.... this has been a feature on ALL of their "digital" motion picture cameras... I like it. I use it... Typically, it's NOT a "one touch and it's gone" scenario.... it's a programmed button followed by a menu asking you if you're sure you want to delete it... OR all menu driven the same way. Works GREAT! Again, a feature that could be turned on or off... OR MUST BE mapped to an available button, would be great... so if others don't want to use it, they don't have too!

Thanks Kevin,

I'm only about a "year in" to the Red World! I'm honestly not familiar with the Red One at all! I've never shot with one! I bought an Epic in January, and coming from Sony based cameras that had this feature and allowed me to shoot NFL and NCAA football in this manner, made it REALLY easy for my clients to NOT have to sift through footage they didn't like, want or need. This is a feature my higher end clients really miss when I shoot with the Epic. I'm glad to hear I'll now have this feature too!

Perhaps you know... for Sony XDCam HD cameras... there's a way to even "record" as you change out media! Does the Red One allow for that? It's a button you have to push (mapped of course) and when you do, you have up to 1 minute to swap media! Very, very cool! Also, what are the "times" one can select on Red One? Sony uses, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, & 30 seconds of buffer. I use :30 for sports, but I have other uses as well... I use picture cache all the time during interviews too... only I select about 8 seconds there... This way I can start/stop for each question and the corresponding answer is its own clip! Much faster in post. My clients loved the idea so much, they made other shooters implement the same practice...

There are two ways to implement pre-record : Write short time segments to the SSD and keep deleting the oldest ones, and the other way is to buffer images in camera memory buffers, never touching the SSD until needed.
I hope it is the later.

Haha, I wonder what camera that would be. I often do many tests before shooting. Rehearsals. If you are far out in the forest with no electricity then it would be very useful. I never agreed with "avoiding features because users may use them wrong". If that was really the case then we could take away the format tool as well. So my vote goes for a Delete button. :)
