  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 246 is Great

Please tell me why I don't have the option to transcode to ProRes4444 on my Macbook Pro. Could it be that I need Final Cut installed?

Yes, you need FCP 7 installed. The license is connected with all newer versions of ProRes.

I don't see an option to export EXR in the Win version. Is it just me or did you remove it?

If I try to zoom the timeline it looses visual representation. The footage is still there and I can play, but I can't see anything on the timeline.

Is is possible to do color work while a clip is playing? Right now it stops playing as soon as I try to change any colors

Dusty
Yes, the timeline must definetely be improved, for the rest the software is great.

RocketcineX has stopped working for me as well. I didn't realize that RocketcineX was a short lived project. I like the clean interface for transcoding on set.

Deanan can you reply? It seems if we are testing the new we lose the old...wish i had known. I suppose its easy enough to go back but a hassle...

Looking at the scope connected to the SDI output of the Rocket, and then looking at it playing a ProRes render out of a Decklink card is a wonder to behold. There is a minute shift visible in the histogram, but they are to all intents and purposes identical.

Very well done guys!

Aww no RocketCine-X and no prior versions of RedCine-X anymore! Can at least RocketCine-X be updated to work with the new firmware and drivers?

Yes, Rocketcine is not being updated anymore and all the effort is going into REDcineX.
You'd have to downgrade the drivers/firmware to use it.

Does redcinex use redline to render?

Great news with the color fidelity between lut and prores 4x4!

I had the same results with rocketcine-x.

What's the best way to bump back to previous drivers/firmware to re-enable rocketcine-x, etc...?

thx a lot Deanan for this new update... love the preview buttons...

may I ask you for a pointer in the histogram for setting black level, like the old redalert had?

best,
rainer

246 has been solid for me. One thing I have noticed is that loading clips into the browser and then transferring to the bin has caused quite a few crashes. Once I get one crash, I cannot open the app without crashing until I delete the pref file.

Loving the new build - and just in time too! Was getting a bit annoyed with the Pro Res outs being color-goofy. Noticing a significant shift in the waveform preview from 1/8th res to full or half res (on a 4k 16:9 file) - I suspect it has something to do with the black level being so noisy (night shot with pre MX footage). Is the waveform sampling at lower res really that inaccurate? Is there anything that can be adjusted to make this less of a problem - or am I the only one seeing this problem?

With same settings and SMPTE range on, I see a quite more flat export on MXF files... need to set black level new now....

With same settings and SMPTE range on, I see a quite more flat export on MXF files... need to set black level new now....

Also see badly washed out exports to ProRes 4444 and ProRes 422 with SMPTE checked. Problem goes away with SMPTE unchecked, otherwise identical settings.

Other issues:
- Stills store doesn't work when using external monitoring via Rocket.
- Audio playback quits working sometimes, necessitating app restart.
- Sensitivity seems to have been dialed way down on lift/gain/gamma wheels on Wave -- too far, maybe.
- RCX (on OS X anyway) can import and play back clips from directory paths containing special characters, but gives errors on export.

grading full range and SMPTE room activated gives me the right result to mxf files (with a little offset through an aja HD-SDI / DVI converter). exporting with the same grade to QT (ProRes422, no Gamma Correction) gives the same results...
