  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Build 21...

It's a time to harvest RED HOT Chilly Papers from my balcony.

What type of playback speeds are you guys getting in REDAlert? On my Mac Pro Nehalem 8 core 2.93GHz/SL 10.6.1 4.5K REDCODE 42 is stuttering in REDAlert v21.0. The H proxy is playing back at 12fps in QuickTime 7.

I've just updated our camera with B21. Looks wicked! Native 1:2,35 is so much easier to edit in comparrison to croping down 2:1. Is there any word on when 4,5K RedCode 42 will be supported by Color? This is the main reason why I can't use the setting at the moment.

Hi Andrae, we just shot 2 cameras at Rec42 Build 21 on Sunday and it plays back fine in the same system set up that you have. We have 16GB RAM.

Have you also downloaded the QT update 3.9.0 on red.com?

EDIT: Actually, I was wrong, we too are experiencing playback issues. (sans Red Rocket) we have an RR, so Im trusting that will take care of the issue.

But for now we get about 2FPS on QT full proxies and about 20FPS at 1/8th... i.e.e just shy of Realtime.

Anyone else having playback issues with 4.5K?

Jeez..a camera that gets new instead of old as time passes: you Red guys are magicians!

....can you make a trick and transform my EX1 into a Redone?

So we will start shooting mid of october.... thinking of using 4.5k @ RC42 .... it seems that the package will be stable.... any chance to know when it will be a release version ?

BTW can the Rocket play 4.5k @ RC42 in realtime ?

thx

Thanks for the feedback Tim. Were you using QuickTime X or QuickTime 7? For the H proxies in QT7 I was getting 12fps. RED Alert about 1 or 2 fps. Anyone else noticing this slow playback in REDAlert?

Yes. 3 shoots on 4.5K RC42. Red Rocket has no problem with the footage here.

Shooting feature and on this build regardless of the risk and both RED drives went down...I do love RC42+4.5k fov, like having a new camera, yes, yes...but camera was simple too unstable, no playback, audio errors, Drives wont format...etc etc. Ok its beta, just a heads up. Happy shooting.

B21 recognizes that mic is attached, but doesn't record audio, and audio meters don't respond. B20 works fine for me with this mic.

Does this mean there's an update to the sdk too? If so, has that been released or when will it be? Just worried that our pipline won't be mature enough for the B21 footage once it rolls in our door. =)

cheers

edit: noticed after posting this that this thread was one month old. Thought it was posted yesterday. =) I mean, hey! There's only four pages of comments, usually is like 140 after a month. =) my bad, but I believe there's still some relevance to my question. =)

For the record, I just wrapped a feature shot exclusively on Build 21 4.5k Redcode 42 and had no issues (other than filling up a lot of hard drives). I consider this "lucky" and would never recommend using a beta build for a commercial production but in this case Build 21 performed admirably. I know it's cliche, but looking through the same lenses with a wider fov just from a firmware update sure feels like a revolution.
