I can't find a thread for reporting any probs from build 17 so just thought I'd mention a few things.

I was playing with it last night and I noticed that if you try to zoom into the image with the magnify button when you playback, the camera crashed. I had to reboot before it would record again.

On another occasion the iso stopped working. I was rotating the dial but nothing was happening to the image, even though the readout was going up the image wasnt getting any brighter. Again, a reboot solved it.

Finally, does the HDMI work with EVF and LCD connected? I had to unplug the EVF inorder to get a signal out of the HDMI.

Are you sure you weren't in VIEW RAW?

Did you have PREVIEW set to 720p or MENUS?

Thanks Cali,

I had preview set to 720 and I think I was in Redspace. That said I had no idea that iso had no effect viewing in RAW.

RAW is RAW is RAW - the ISO setting does nothing when you're in RAW, it's only metadata.

Your HDMI problem is odd, though; if you're in 720p mode you should definitely have something on there.

I noticed camera in Build 17 does not crete log files when ejecting card. Also when your out of disc space the red RECORD circle remains in the corner but sort of flashes...this confused the DP who thought he was recording and I had never seen that before. I think there should be no RED dot if there is no record space, cause often times your in the middle of a shoot and all you need is to see that dot for a brief second and you think your rolling without noticing its flashing. Other then that build has been pretty stable...we have been shooting 4kHD so I am curious to how it will look when I print out 1080.

Build 17 changes

Build 17 changes

Those are two specific changes we made.

1. Camera writes a LOG only when you tell it to. See the SYSTEM / MEDIA menu (described on Page 42 of Operations Guide)

2. Error messages were resized to fill only the upper section of the LCD / EVF.

So if you are looking at HD-SDI for example, an error is indicated by dimming the screen and flashing the red record dot.

Can you explain what you mean by this comment?

i.e no video, or no graphics on top of video?

My camera power cycled its self when I played back a clip I just recorded. I would play the clip and it would play for about 2 seconds and then freeze. Then the camera would power down and then start up on its own after it shut down. It did this twice...Build 17 of course.

S4ilens box stuck

S4ilens box stuck

Hello,
it seems on build 17_v3.3.9 that all settings
remain in place, booting after booting, except the box "S4 ilens" which is ON again at each new booting, is this common ?
Could it be cured ?

I've had black frames at the end in REDCINE as well.

I've found that timecode is less trustworthy with this build - it seems to drop timecode at will [even using RED batts].

The QT-writing "post" bug persists.

Sometimes the UI will lock up over an active image feed. Other times the image feed will lock up under an active UI. A restart fixes it.

I've had metadata come out funny a few times. The camera's tint was set to 0, but the footage showed up with a tint of -44 in REDCINE and R:A.

As Zak said, black shading can have a surprising affect on the GPIO settings. Sometimes - even with the settings correct - they would behave as though they were wrong [double-punch FIZ thing].

Just a quick incomplete list. I'll shoot you a few more, Deanan.

I had a few codec errors on a shoot I did the other day.
Was surprised when it came up as I thought these where a thing of the past.

Also could not playback footage in camera, when I did I'd get a split screen image then a green frame. Was shooting RC28 16:9 29fps

This was to drive or to CF?

One of the first things I do with a newly installed build is to change the user assignable button 1 - from "Auto-White Balance" (which I only use as a convenient light meter to check the temperature of the light, never to set the white balance) into "View RAW" mode (which I use all the time).

It works for the first few changes but then refuses to change into View RAW mode... and thereafter refuses to show any of the changes subsequently made in any of the metadata settings. It still shows the last look used - the white balance and ISO settings are what I see - but after this point, changing the white balance or ISO settings no longer change the image displayed.

And before you ask, it most definitely sticks showing the metadata based image; contrasted, saturated and boosted from the WB and ISO settings.

I just loaded up the beta build 17 to check out the upcoming goodness - now back to the release build for (hopefully) an upcoming bit of work.

ViewRAW does not show any of the changes to the image. That so the metering and the image is not incluenced by the RGB processing.
