  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BUILD 17 Beta

Will it ever be possible to have the clip name, record dot, and frame markings through the HD SDI when both the EVF and LCD are in use. On a drama i did recently this was the only problem i had with the camera, the operator wants the evf, the focus puller wants the lcd, the script supervisor wants the clip numbers and the camera assistant doesn't want to have to put tape all over the directors monitor. Also as the record button sometimes gets knocked it helps if video village can see if the camera is recording.

Yes, Kinetic, that would be a basic requirement in a pro camera.
If the Red Team wants to offer an upgrade on the graphics engine, even if it costs, I would love to take advantage of that.
All the outputs should offer all, or none, or some, of the info/TC/lines etc. as per the camera department's requirements.
Just like other pro cameras.
BTW, looks like a nice software update guys. Looking forward to trying it out, and I'm glad we can "slush back" to the release build.
Cheers,
Harry

This was what I asked for, but it seems we will only ever get the info out if either the LCD or EVF is unplugged.

...which is why the assistant should be working off of a third party HDSDI monitor. Video village gets their framelines and timecode, the operator gets what they want, and the assistant can see what is being shot. Sure you lose the menus and status line, but you can learn to live with that. Not ideal, but I'm sure Epic will be better.

i really hope someone comes up with a solution for this. i hate to keep bringing it up.

Slinn, My camera doesn't hang at boot with or without the LCD... Or at least I have never had that happen where there was any indication that the LCD was at fault. Have you talked to RED about it?

I haven't had my camera hang while booting since the pre-release build 16 revisions and it would happen when a reboot was needed for resetting the clock.

I have it hang once in a while. Almost never twice in a row. I find unplugging the drive before bootup helps, but I haven't found that the LCD makes any difference.

Can we hope for lens info in the GUI at some point? Sometimes on lower budget stuff with less crew it's great to be able to see if you hit a preset focus mark in the viewfinder.

I found in both mine and my friend's camera that the only way to reset it so it will boot (get past the "booting..." on the screen) is to unplug the power cord. Once I do that it boots right up. But, I also waste 20 seconds waiting to see if it's gonna boot.

This happens to my camera from time to time. Unplugging the LCD then rebooting always solves it. I think this has been mentioned a number of times?

Its already there in Build 16 and the Beta Build 17, provided you have the S4/i pins in the P/L mount. Cameras shipping since Sept 15 2008 do, and existing units will be updated over the next few months.

Sweeeeet. Shooting with the HVX spoiled me for one man run and gun, as the on-screen lens focus info made focusing while framing very doable. I got really good at estimating distance while operating, but with Red I can't take my eye off the screen to look at the side of the lens. Much more challenging. For me, being able to see lens data on the EVF/LCD is as or more important than having lens data for post matchmoving.

Question: will the new 300 have S4/i as well? I have the current 300 and love it, but that would be a reason to upgrade . . . . .

I have the same booting problems. Unplugging the LCD works 95% of the time. Sometimes removing the battery or unplugging power cord is also necessary.

Still boot hang ups for me too. Ongoing and annoying but ultimately ok as she will get going eventually. Pretty embarasing in front of clients though.

A simple answer from RED whether it is even possible to get the info in the HDSDI out while having the EVF and LCD on at the same time would be nice. It would just save a heap of bloody posts on the topic...i'm over it...just a yes it's possible or a no it's not. Simple question simple answer. Don't even want to know when if it's a yes, i know it'll happen eventually. If not, i'll bloody paint some lines on my monitor and rig some kinda TC display and gaff the bloody thing on the monitor.

Well, Jeff, looks like you got lucky...
A lot of people seem to be still having this issue, there have been loads of topics about this, but I don't remember having ever seen someone from Red answering this... Would at least be nice to know if this can be fixed, and if it's hardware or software related, and what's causing it.

I don't know for sure if it's LCD related, but it never happened to me when I didn't have the LCD plugged in. And unplugging the LCD always worked when it didn't boot the first time.

I have the feeling B16 made this issue less frequent, but it's still there. It doesn't hang every time, of course, and in 90% it then starts on the second attempt, but it's still annoying, adds to the already long booting times, and looks bad in front of a client.

Could someone at Red please answer this ?

Thanks,
Nils.
