It doesn´t mater if it is the 1 or the 8. I am hoping from this build to become a great advance in operativity, because right now is a litle bit unpleasing some of the things that you have to do. We can loose the prespective that is an uncomplite camera at this point...
Say that obviusly we like what we see other wise we wouldn´t be talking here in the first place :D
Offhollywood you should get pay by red men you are every where, i imagine yourself in a shooting looking to the setmonitor and writing in the forum at the same time.

Yes, interesting thread.
I'm not buying Red right at this moment but I understand why I lot of
people are. there are many here with a real passion for making Red
work for them and that's great.
I'd like to see just a few more options for recordable media, 1080p
monitoring & multiple outputs. 60p @ 4K and a more stable cooler
running box of tricks with a few tweaks in Redcine/Redalert............
Maybe I'll change my mind and order after build 14 or 15 are enabled.
I'm working on a project for late2008/9 and would love to use Red for that.
If the team produced a 1080p build I might even purchase that for rental
in the short term.
There seems to be no shortage of orders for the camera at the moment
in it's present form and I worry that this could inhibit some of the important
advanced features the camera needs to make it a really first class piece of
kit, going forward.
Again. there are many users more than happy with the camera in it's present form, and even if they have doubts about the camera's development they are still purchasing the box and waiting for features to be enabled.
I hope build 14 and 15 turns out to be really great for these guys, they
deserve it. If the builds don't turn out to be great, perhaps the rest of
us should stop potentially buying this camera untill it does turn out to be a great piece
of kit, fully developed out of beta and in stock at Red inc.

Do we know if the 4k 2:1 working better than plain ol' 4k will be fixed in the next build? I've been shooting 2:1 out of convenience just because it's more compatible with everything. But now that I'm shooting a feature in 4k (not 2:1) I'm wondering when that will be working smoothly..

That's on the RA/RC/QT side, not camera firmware.

Build 14 is Landmark. You will be very happy with it and it is due in the next few days. It has new surprise features.

Build 15 is also Landmark and has all the image quality improvements. Including simultaneous outputs.

Thanks.. I really can't wait.

I've asked this before and it was scoffed at, but I don't think I ever got word from Red:

Can I apply the image enhancements in Build 15 to footage shot with Build 14?

I know it seems ridiculous, but Red has tricks, I don't know.. Thought I should ask..

thanks for the post Jim I am on the edge of my seat

Sorry... no. You can't apply Build 15 improvements to Build 14 footage. The only good news is that footage from Build 14 should be great. But build 15... better.

Jim

No simultaneous outputs in build 14? I thought 14 had to do with camera operations and that 15 was image quality improvements.

I'm not sure where you got that idea... we have posted that Build 14 & 15 were landmark builds. Build 14 is now what I just said. New features with some significant surprises. Build 15 has all the last image improvements plus simultaneous outputs.

Please remember that we reserve the right to change at any minute.

That sounds great Jim. I´m getting my camera in just a few hours and can´t wait to get home from work to try i out. The new builds sounds nice. Thanks for making the camera!

NASA is giving us some special access to shoot Thursday's shuttle launch with RED #206 - any chance we can get build 14 by then?

Also, so as not to spoil the surprises, I have a current NDA on file at RED so if there are any clues you can pm me on what is in that build (i.e. whether it is anything significant for that shoot) I would appreciate.

I also hope to get access to the Neutral Bouyancy Lab for an underwater 4K shoot in the next few months. (AquaVideo supplied six cameras for the NBL, so I have some contacts there as well.)
