Thank you Nar, Brent, Kelly, Jarred, and Jim and everyone else working behind the scenes at RED DIGITAL Cinema for providing us with such enabling and world-changing technology.

My Epic has entered the DRAGON, and I decided to name it "Bruce" after Li Xiaolong aka Bruce Lee.

He has several chinese names - Lee Siu Long means Little Dragon, or Lee Jun Fan - which means "Return Again" - like a phoenix.

This name has a cascading symbolism for me because I see the camera as a new start in many ways, and because it is powerful, compact, and has good "flow." It also represents the fruits of a lot of hard work and diligence that I have put into obtaining it, and the hard work and diligence of those who have created it.

Hopefully later today I will be able to post some R3D's of my home and family, and once I start shooting some jobs with it I will be sharing some of my work with it here.

for now enjoy this little instagram shot, and my cheesy instagram unboxing!

"Here it is!"

I wonder what aliens (non Rerdusers) would think what "it" could mean! I know what "it" means to us!

Have a nice shooting!

Pat

It is an upgrade.

It was not an upgrade from a Scarlet - I just was in a hurry to get it to Red, and I used my Scarlet Box to send it to them and they were kind enough to return it. Didn't have time to go into deep storage to get my Epic brain box.

I ordered the upgrade the very first day that it went up as on option and called my bomb squad rep to annoy him.

I'm sure he will say it wasn't annoying, but lets just say I was persistent in getting in line as soon as I could.

As for serial number, I don't post stuff like that because it's really only important to me, to Red, and to my insurance company that covers my gear :)

best,

Dan

Epic-M serial number 728 and still no news about upgrade..

Looks like the Dragons are gathering in the mountains and meadows. Soon the film industry will be aflame from their fire breathing!

Dan, our pleasure and we are just as excited as you about DRAGON, trust me : )

All, remember, upgrades will be notified by order date/time stamp, not serial number....

Extremely quick test under Horrible mixed lighting conditions.

5k Full Gate, 18mm Zeiss Superspeed shot wide open. Camera was on a Movi with a preston fiz set attached but not focused, and the handset wasn't around (don't ask why - I was under duress)

Thanks to my beautiful wife Sharon, and my best friend Eddie for being models for 2 minutes.

I promise I will shoot some stuff when I have control of focus and fingers on the camera more soon.

Ultra fast commentary - this is basically how it looked to my eyeballs in the real world situation at the time. I don't see any reason to push this up past 800, as I like to play things dark when it tells the story, but if you need to you can.

The feeling and mojo of the image gives me a big sick grin, and having witnessed what geniuses like Matty Libatique, ASC and Dean Cundey, ASC have done with this sensor under tungsten lights firsthand - I know there is a nice high bar set for what a mere mortal like myself might be able to achieve with this camera in my hands :)
