  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Britney Spears " Perfume " Shot on Dragon by Christopher Probst

Yes... And this IS the brightened version! ;-) especially on her performance against the guy's abs...
 
I can't get myself to watch this. Started the Vimeo version up, but the compression is killing me and I'm afraid I'll be disillusioned if I watch any more of it. Please, Christopher - is there anywhere we can see this in a lower compression?

Tony, did you try opening up the link in YouTube directly and selecting 108 playback resolution? I watch everything in the minimized window at 1080 and it looks pretty good that way.
 
Outside North America the youtube link may not work.

Now I have to make a disclaimer in that what's being posted here is the label's official release of the Britney Spears, "Perfume" video, which was directed by Joseph Kahn. And while I am happy with the work and overall look of the video, this version of the video represents about 1/2 of what we shot. There is actually an online petition to have the director's cut released, we will have to wait and see if that comes to pass as I'd love people to see the more dramatic narrative story-line that was excised for various reasons out of the video. That version is one of Joseph and my best videos to date.

Well done man ! , compliments to the colourist as well. :) very nice tones.
 
Looks gorgeous, but as usual a lot of the subtle texture is lost due to Youtube compression.
 
Camera/Art: Poetic and intelligent -- what a great mixture, love it.
Camera: I love the colors and the aesthetic.

Lots of good things came together for this.
Obviously a great combination, well done Christopher Probst -- and RED :o)

Crappy song, but beautiful images. For me this just confirms that we're entering into a whole new era of filmmaking. Where the Dragon's lack of limitations are no longer demanding so many tricks, but instead, an eye for the truth of light and composition. Story telling can now come from the heart rather than the technology. Where the moment outweighs the manufacturing of one. I couldn't be happier that I'm in the Priority One upgrade group, I plan on putting my Dragon in this pursuit of truth right away. Thank you Jim, Jannarad and RED for the effort to make this camera.

So in this ensemble of 2 EPIC DRAGONs and an MX, I'm curious to know how the MX was used, and what for. Clearly, the budget would have easily allowed for a 3rd EPIC DRAGON, I'm guessing, so was there a reason to use the MX?

Watched it, and signed the petition. Great work. And am awaiting your Director's Cut. Can't understand why they won't allow it out.

Actually, no the budget was not large enough at all. Budgets have been steadily going down for the last 5 years... And record labels cry murder and offer 1/2 of what the budget should be.

We used a standard Epic in the underwater housing to facillitate being able to go from shooting above water to hopping in the pool and rolling immedatiately with the underwater cam.
 
The song is really growing on me. And I have to say, on second viewing...the video is getting even better. Hats off Mr.Probst!
 
A lot of great looks here. I'm just curious as to why you didn't get rid of the flicker and strobing from the fluorescents in front of the gas station. Was that something you kept on purpose? It draws my eyes away from the focus of the images. But of course that's what my eyes are trained to do. Excellent low light here. Did you do much noise removal?
 
I love that you (Chris) left the flo's flickering. When it's done on purpose, I think they introduce a grittiness to the image you definitely wouldn't have gotten if they'd been switched out...it's more "realistic"/"down to earth"

Chris, was there beauty work done to Britney in just about every closeup or MCU?

I think my favorite stuff is the performance lighting on top of the motel roof.
