I am having a problem with a lot of blue grain in the shadows. I have black shaded several times and still have the problem. Am I doing something wrong here or is it me?

Thanks,

-Erik V.

I've noticed this as well. I try to blackshade to the settings i'll shoot if time allows. Not sure if it's an issue but I also noticed this problem stopped when I put gaff tape around my lens cap to prevent any light getting in (not that it should).

Post an R3D frame grab , let us know how we can download it and we will give you some tips on what you can to do improve it.
Usually its under exposing or using 2k or shooting underexposed combined with tungsten lighting.

Good luck

Thanks Y'all, I had a crazy shoot last night at a huge NBA all star weekend/P Diddy party.

I'll post some grabs later. But I did have a lot of grain issue, but thats cause of the extreme low light situations in the club.

I will try the color balance trick and the gaff tape around the lens mount? I guess.

Thanks again for the reply's.

To be clear, Erik, he's talking about putting gaff tape around the edges of the lens body while black shading. Make sure and run black shading with the body cap on the camera, no lens, and putting the camera in a darker room... the less light the better.

Does it really matter if you have a lens on? If its a dark room with lenscap on i dont think it could matter.

Some lens caps will not completely block infrared light. The idea behind doing this in a dark room, and/or with a body cap on, provides the optimal light (or lack thereof) conditions so as to reduce the possibility of any light, visible or IR, hitting the sensor. Some lenses don't seal 100% to the mount either, and you can get a tiny bit of light leakage around the edges. Some people even throw a black blanket or something over the camera to reduce the possibility of light contamination during black shading.

It's worth it to try these "extreme" measures with a weird problem like this... helps to weed out the variables.

I always use the Red body cap, a black silk cloth over the mount area, and a very dark room.

I've found shooting daylight balanced lights at ISO 800 is just fine, but shooting tungsten WB is too noisy at ISO 800. (RAW, so changing in RCX is the same) I rate the camera at ISO 320 under tunstgen light.

I noticed a similar problem at the last shoot where the blacks very very noisy. I can swear the RED ONE MX is cleaner than this camera. Im going to do a test this coming week with both and try and see for sure whats going on.

can this be just a firmware issue?
