  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Blackmagic URSA 12K - Now $5,995!

It's a really cool camera.

But I think the way it's built, marketed and priced makes it a bit of a niche thing. Most BM buyers are not really out there to get a 12k camera, they think the other Ursas are more than fine. They worry about saving all those K's and few understand the benefits, like you can record les Mb/s if you record a bigger image with compression and still get a better end result.

Then I also think that if it would have been a FF sensor it would have been a completely different demand for it. Simply, people are willing to pay a bit extra for a lanrger sensor but does not really care for a sensor with shit high pixel density. That makes this customer group look at Kinefinity FF and other cameras and compare the price usability etc. Not many in this group that I know opted for the BM12k.

I actually think it would have sold better if they did not have the 12k mode and just sold it as a 8k camera or even as a 4k camera with superb 4k quality.

If this camera is used together with really good lenses and exposed well it is quite difficult to beat in terms of picture sharpness, noise levels etc. Some of the images from it that I seen are very top notch stuff, that looks like something from a ultra high res still camera. But not to many are in the market to get such camera, it has a quite narrow scope. Simply not many that shoot for the Imax screen care or have any kind of worry about camera costs, going for the cheap option seams silly for them. And most other does not really care if it's 4,6k or 12K.

Now when the 12K cost as little as the 4,6K more people will for sure buy it and I think a lot more people will see what benefits comes with resolution and oversampling.Wich is a good thing.
