Black Swan

[Paul Wildman]

My first underwater shoot with my RED Scarlet and Gate Housing, shot at a project rate of 24 and 48fps at 3K.Conditions were terrible, Overcast, Rainy and very late in the evening, which made for shooting underwater more challenging.Let me know what you think.

Here are some screen grabs from the days shoot.

[Nick Morrison]

What kind of shark is that? I'm surprised she can stay underwater so long...especially w/out getting freaked out.

What ISO you shooting at?

[Paul Wildman]

It's an Oceanic White Tip Shark. We dive with sharks on a regular bases, so we understand the behavior, which helps us with staying underwater longer with one breath hold.

I playing with my ISO between250 - 800 if can remember right.

[Ethan Knight]

really stunning work Paul. you make it look too easy.. The noise and grain in the frame for me really adds the the whole feel of it. With a different sound track (ethereal) I can easily see this as an art installation.

By the way, is the shark tagged? what's that wire next to it's dorsal fin?

[Paul Wildman]

Thanks Ethan.

Yes thats called a spaghetti tag, its a basic tag that if another researcher sees the shark he knows information has already been collected from that specimen.

[Alvise Tedesco]

Wicked cool

[Sandro Klopfstein]

looks really cool! but I would have used something a little more dreamy than propellerheads as the soundtrack

Very interesting soundtrack choice... not what I was expecting for an underwater piece (which is a good thing).
