  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big Sur

Looks gorgeous in proper quicktime HD from Yahoo trailers, youtube compression was funky.

David as usually very beautiful work. Why can't this be a Red reel? I think you could do what's needed for the Dragon reel... Too bad you were not asked- or were you?

Really nice,
David I must say you changed my mind on using post black promist. I usually really dont like that look... now while whatching your trailer I kind of made a U turn on that. It really grit the images in a nice way that, even from just looking at the trailer I can tell it suits the mod of the story. Nice to see something different than crystal clear images and flat grades hitting the screens.

I'm allready fiddleling with a bach tree with black and white glow nodes in my head. :yesnod:

Actually I shot the movie clean -- the diffused glow was done at Light Iron by Ian Vertovec. We wanted the blacks to glow so we isolated the shadows using a luminance key and defocused them and layered them back over the image. But I'm not sure if the trailer was created from that master -- it looks like the trailer people might have added a bit more diffusion. The "black fog" effect is something that an optical filter can't do, otherwise I would have used a camera filter.

Yes all understood. I have read this whole tread a few times and also I done something similar in flame for my clients a lot of times even though I never really liked the look of it, this trailer made me think completely different.

Great looking trailer no doubt but i think it also looks like an entertaining and interesting watch, i'm looking forward to seeing this film.

Wow David.! That certainly looks amazing. There is one outdoor night scene that i keep pausing over and over. The one outside Tosca cafe. The details in the darks are amazing but still with nice blacks and no noticeable noise. Would have loved to see you prepare for that shot.
An inspiration as always!
