Hi everyone ,
Now I see that many owners of executed RED 1's convulsively sell the cameras on eBay and RedUser at dumping prices because excited about arrive of the RED EPIC...
As I understand conditions of any offers and contracts it is necessary to read attentively.
In "EPIC STAGE Clarification and update" crystal clear written follow : Keep your RED ONE and serial number is executed...
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=45483
KEEP!!!
Not sell to third party...
Probably I am mistaken, but OFFHOLLYWOOD isn't going to sell the RED ONE's... Only upgrades to SSD modules.
I can am mistaken... But I always remember Jim's words :
" We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone with a bad attitude "
Thanks
Happy Chinese New Year !!!

They are keeping their red ones... it's legally called... LEASING. Most people that purchase a RED One now won't actually own the camera until Epics are released. At that time there is a lease buy out and transfer of ownership occurs.

In any case you posted in the wrong forum.... unless you are selling something or hiring.

I didnt say leasing was shady, i said using the language "keep your red one" to mean "if you dont legally own it at time of shipping your epic, you dont get one" is a bit shady.

I haven't seen this clarified one way or the other by red.

(Not planing on selling for a while, so this doesnt affect me.)

As I know RED DIGITAL CINEMA COMPANY didn't plan and needed distributors, dealers and brokers. RED is not ordinary company and a major principle "face to face with the client".
Probably I am mistaken and rules have changed...
I have spent enough money for my camera and accessories...
And when I see as others sell same on $10K more cheaply, I am afraid for my investments...:embarassed:
RED also continues sales Red One's, and probably too has inconveniences from cheap offers from owners executed RED ONE's.
RED TEAM keeps silence... Many accept this silence to own advantage.
I think that probably we learn about reaction RED when shipment RED EPIC stage 2 will begin...
Probably some will receive instead of RED EPIC the notice about deposit return...
Anyway it is necessary to learn Jim's opinion....

Malk,

Well look at this way.. I bought a RED Rocket card for $4750. A few months later RED listed refurbished cards on their site with a 90 day warranty for $3000. Now the regular person will want to buy my card for 3000 or less. Do I get pissed at RED for placing me in a situation where I have cheap offers on my card? No... that's the free market system... ain't it fun/exciting. Do what's in your best business interest. Coming on here and doing what your doing seems a little malicious to me. There is nothing RED can do to prevent someone from leasing their cameras out. Your investment in cameras and accessories won't be protected by RED.

You can even extend this a little further. Do I get pissed at RED for coming out with the Epic camera and making offers on my MX RED One drop by about 7.5k and accessories drop below 50%? Offers on my non-MX drop by 8k :-) The answer is no... I opt to maneuver and get two Stage 2 Epics :) This is capitalism buddy... be tactical.

hi malk, your income from the camera should come from the pictures it produces.
buying new, selling/leasing used takes a hit on the price. thats normal
there are 8000 reds out there and if you count the reds sold used over the last 2 years, the nr is somewhere below 1000 units.
the red works today and will work in 4 years. it will create stunning 4k pictures no matter what.
and red gives the possibility to upgrade (mx,bomb evf, ssd module)
ok, the red will lose some value on the used market, so what?
it doesnt make your pictures less valuable

The END ...:iagree:
I think that thread shoud be closed ...
RED TEAM keeps silence... :frown2:
Happy Chinese New Year ..
.:001_rolleyes:

I've never owned anything electronic / hi tech that has held it's value like
the red one I've had for almost 3 years.
If people sell a 17,500 camera for 10,000 after three years use that's still an amazing deal.
$2,500 ( or even $3,500 with depreciation on accesories ) a year to own , use and rent out a world class professional camera is cheap.
I've never dealt with a company who were less shady than Red, they don't seem at all interested in tricking anyone into any bad deal.

but what about 6 months when epic s who is half the price and twice is good? how can client want to rent red one mx for good price? Even if I can make money back but then price drops and client wants epic s. If epic S were more than red one then that would be good.

Sample Red1 Lease with $1 buyout option

Sample Red1 Lease with $1 buyout option

Does anyone by chance have a written lease that they can give me a copy of to help with the lease option to buy?

I have an executed red1 camera that I would like to lease and eventually sell.

Thanks!

This practice is not in the same spirit as the deal we offered and I don't like it.

Just curious... If a RED ONE owner gets a discount on an EPIC and doesn't return his ONE (i.e. "keeps" it), then does it also mean that he can never resell it?

From what I understand Red offered stage 2 for those who love and want to keep their R1 and get an EPIC-X, and stage 3 for those who couldn't afford to keep their R1 and upgrade to EPIC-X. I guess they didn't expect stage 3 people to join stage 2 and start the whole lease thing.

Give em an inch.

So, the deal is that if you want to sell your R1 you either keep it till you receive your Epic and then sell it or sell it before but do the transfer of ownership thingy after...

That's definitely not the spirit of the offer. It was made for people who love their R1 and want to keep it, but are just switching to EPIC to stay in line with no obsolescence.

As for me, I can't imagine being without my camera for a single day so will abolutely have it when my Epic arrives.

sell it before but do the transfer of ownership thingy after...

This morning I have a committed lessee who is ready to wire monies to my account, but after reading this thread, I now have much anxiety regarding the deal. I now fear loosing my spot in line or getting my two other $5000 Epic deposits refunded that Red has held in good faith since April of 2010. The proposal that is sitting on my desk comes to us at a perfect time that the present value of the camera and package will generate a large enough amount that can assist us in purchasing an Epic M. Red has made it clear that the executed camera cannot be sold or leased. This is our lively hood and how we make our living, Red could pull the plug on this and put us out of business. It sounds like our best option is for us to walk away from this deal otherwise we have a great chance of endangering our relationship with Red?
