Since most of the time im shooting sync sound with no audio line to camera, i hadnt noticed this before.

Shooting standups tomorrow, where the client needs Stills from the video, (what better camera?!) im testing the audio, but its HORRID. There is almost no sound and its making a clicking noise.

Im uploading an R3D clip for you all to test and see what the problem is. I'm using a Sennheiser wireless with 1/8mini jack going into the Scarlet. shooting 3k@ 12:1, Camera audio in Balanced mode, at almost 40dB on camera, and the Sennheiser Mic @ +00 sensitivity(the highest it goes) and the AF out on the reciever at +12 The highest it goes....

I cant seem to get a level on the camera. This is disturbing.

Are they all like this? I'm going to test unbalanced mode perhaps that will help......

will post the link to the R3D when its done uploading in about 40 min.

Immediate thoughts on situation? am i doing something wrong?

AFAIK the camera is unbalanced only at the moment. The 'balanced' option does not really work I think.

So, tape over the ring contact on the input plug or find a way to convert the balanced output of the radio mic receiver to an unbalanced signal.

I found all sorts of issues initially getting my audio set up properly and what it came to was the 3.5 mini jacks on the red are wired differently than most. You can find people explains TRS blah blah. But the short of it is that you should get a wooden camera A BOX and keep it with the cam. Will allow you to use industry standard XLR and your G2 kit wil work great, I use them a ton. I was getting pops, clicks, and low levels trying to find 3.5 to 3.5 that would work. Now with that said, you are in a bind given your shoot is today. I would go to an audio store and buy a 3.5 to XLR adaptor, be sure it's a single output (they make ones that split from a single 3.5 to two pig tails). And connect your kit via xlr. It's a cheap purchase and will get you out the bind. It's still may not be wired perfectly for phantom power etc, but I have found most to work for basic sound it. Set the cam to unbalanced and you should get through your shoot today. I am sure someone will come now and explain why what I said is all wrong, but i have been exactly where you are, and it got me out the bind.

This underlined advice is wrong. "Mono" doesn't really mean Mono for a 1/8 TRS connection. Read this post in the Audio section: These Cables Work. (And why) The information there will apply to any adapter cable.

Balanced audio is enabled in build 2.0.5.

Yea poor word choice, i meant to be sure it had a single XLR output, vs 2 pigtails. Updated that post, and your linked to post rocks anyway. I knew smarter folks would come to aid.

That's the biggest problem with the choice of 1/8" TRS as the audio in connector on Epic/Scarlet. It is so easy to get confused about the cable should be. It is a mono input, but if you buy a cable that says mono on the package it is more likely than not to be wired wrong. With XLRs (or mini XLRs) there is balanced and unbalanced and everything else is a weird special case. With 1/8" TRS, balanced mono is a weird special case.

Does anybody know what is causing the popping clicking that people are reporting. I've been struggling with it and I have the correct cables.

Bump **

Having these ticks or clicks as well. Working with the WC A-box, a Sound Devices mixer and tested cables just to eliminate most potential problems. Sound is great, levels are fine. But that click is there!

And even when I remove all cables from the Scarlet the clicking noise is still there, when monitored through headphones and when playing a recorded clip in RedcineX.

Made a small wav file as an example: http://www.erwinvandijck.com/sites/d...arletaudio.wav

Does anyone have an idea about this?

Please chime in!

It's caused by the 4 contacts for the lens data link. If you cover the contacts with tape it solves the problem - however inelegant that is. Someone else said Red fixed it when they had the camera serviced by reloading the firmware - perhaps it is fixed in the upgrade? I have installed the latest yet.

Wondering if there's any confirmation/clarification on these issues?

About to buy some Red XLR cables. Is there any real reason why I should be forking out more for an A box besides the dual inputs?

Responses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lliam
