  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big FCP overhaul rumor... fingers crossed

There are a few basic things I'd love to see in the upgrade.

Bear in mind I'm not a deep user of FCP by any means. (In fact barely edited anything to completion on it) But I do have it as a tool in my box and have prepped projects for editors of shoots I have DIT'ed on. I have also cut little side projects of my own (including multicam) on it. So there may be existing tools & tricks I've missed.

Ability to sync a whole bin of audio to a bin of video clips in one go rather than having to manually select pairs and merge them a pair at a time.

A way of editing multiclip/multicam that is more flexible and interactive after the first pass, retaining more of the live edit feel later on.

On screen monitoring & feedback from filters and effects that accurately represents the delivery colour & gamma. (Currently if I adjust a key or other filter it updates in the program window as I change settings but not in my video output so I can't accurately judge my work on an external monitor with realtime feedback. I have to adjust, stop, wait for output to refresh, adjust again, rinse, repeat.)
The other problem here has been getting colour and gamma right for web delivery, partly this is because the web has many players and systems that access it but I have come to the possibly false conclusion also because the program window is not designed as an accurate representation of final colour and gamma, you are meant to rely on your external monitoring solution for that but those are designed for video not the web. Please pick me up on this if you can I really want to learn more and find a solution that works)

Some way of knowing you can import a reference still image from some other source (not necessarily a video camera!) see it as it is meant to be seen in it's final display medium (whether it be print, web or whatever) right next to your video on the same screen and colour correct your video so that it will match from it's respective final display medium. A lot of fashion shoots will be doing more and more combined video & stills moving forward and this was a big challenge on the last one I did.

Am I barking up the wrong tree with that lot?

I'm certainly barking in the wrong place and wasting energy posting this here rather than somewhere else more relevant, but I've gone and written it now so I'll hit post anyway.
