  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big Change...

Huh? What does this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes-Oxley have to do with Jim's favorite marketing tactic of sending up trial balloons by the bushel and then picking the ones that fly the highest?

Apple can't do that. They can't announce they are going to do something and not do it within the quarter. Jim can do anything he want's because he has no stockholders to satisfy and no stock price to maintain. Just Shawn Nelson and some other dudes.

Besides on another level it's weird to be upset about it. It's not like he's making changes to a camera you already own. As far as Epic and Scarlet go we are all potential customers again. On what grounds could you get upset, you haven't even made a deposit yet.

Side note: Jim I'm ready to make a deposit on several Epics. I promise not to bitch.

We'll see how far that gets me :)

Exactly.

We are more like company associates or development partners, we get the actual company news, not the glossy, finished 'this is the way it is' one-way communication that major players release.

Hey...I have been on here for months and I haven't received my paycheck?

It's always tease, tease, tease
You're happy when I'm on my knees
One day is fine and next it's black
So if you want me off your back
Well, come on and let me know...
...What the hell are you announcing now.

Seriously guys, do we really need more teases? Can't you just drop the new info on us on the 3rd and blow our collective doors off without warning. We just got done with a protracted specula-fest and subsequent camera spec orgy, I think a surprise attack might have been a better way to go with an already weary and still recovering fan base.

I think it ALL boils down to one thing: Jim really is letting US design the camera. For the most part. Not entirely, but for the most part.

Think about it.

And for that, the man is truly like few others; he's got an enormous heart.

I just hope that they re consider their view on the RED ONE.
I felt it was a little downgraded when they announced the other cams.
I think they will work that out for the best, taking into account the experience learned with the R1 and their users.
Looking forward to December now...

no prob...

no prob...

no problem waiting for new specs, etc.....just the way you guys work.....you are not a normal company and thats why you guys are outstanding!!!

There is nothing to re-consider.. you have a free red one for a year.
then you pay a little bit more (after making your money back on red one) and upgrade

I guess people are feeling uneasy about this (including myself at first) because of the quick timing this post made, related to the 13th. What we should think as consumers / professionals now is that this is different and weird because it is so UNLIKE what we DISLIKE about the competition. I would be worried that they could change things a week after I buy my scarlet, but hey...at least I know I can upgrade.
I feel like all these announcements are tests...
(NAB 08) Testing one...
(Nov. 13) Testing two...
(Dec. 03) Testing three...
(Next date) Final Testing...
(NAB 09) Final Product.

So calm down people and enjoy the ride... :) Weehoooo!

I feel the need to expound on what I was saying: if you look at the progression of the camera, I feel comfortable asserting that there are design elements we've all mentioned nestled firmly within the device.

Jim discovered a wealth of knowledge in the forum, and at times, a few useful suggestions...and by "few," I mean all. So he didn't create this message board as a mere lark, it was truly borne of a desire to give the people what they want. However, he now has the difficult task of deciphering messages, cataloguing and filtering useful posts, and lastly, the biggest feat of them all, trying to tie all those ephemera into a beautifully engineered, and most importantly, functionally designed product. It's like he's projecting our own dreams back to us and asking if it looks close - sort of a "What do you think guys, does it look good? Did we miss anything?"

Jim listens to each of us, but if you notice, he primarily responds when logic is outrageously in err, or ambiguous for the given task: building the film-resolution, dream camera we all would want, for the lowest price point possible. If you make intelligent observations, and add constructively to the hive, he takes note of who you are and listens a little more intently when you speak.

Really, in my conception, RED is a company that Jim started to satisfy his own desires of creating the ultimate film tool, but ultimately, he's been generous and courageous enough to share the ride with us, and humble enough to realize the road to riches lies in others. Read: the preceding statement should not be considered in the literal. :)

Jim seems like a pretty courteous guy to me. If you have something intelligent to add, you can guarantee it won't go unnoticed.

Jim you're like am odd mix of Batman and Santa Claus.

Jim, I just called you an odd mix of "Batman and Santa Claus"...that's gotta set some new record for Red Ryder moments in adulthood.

I wonder what there going to do now, hopefully they lower the prices on the cameras, are maybe they will announce a different resolution greater then 28k!!!!!!!!!? Whatever happens I'm sure it will be good.

Well said! I couldn't agree more.

I wasn't too surprised about this announcement. This is Jim's MO, which is great! The man shoots about as straight as one can, and he does it for us to consume. He has always said things were/would be in flux at Red, which only benefits it's users.

I don't know why anyone would be concerned or think they're going to hear something bad on 12/3. Jim and Red's product changes are usually an improvement or upgrade to what was previously announced. (See: the 11/13 announcements)

How many folks were excited about the NAB 2008 announcements, then were blown away by Jim's reveal 12 days ago? I'm sure the number would be many.

Ah, they finally did it. The camera that replaces your own eyes and provides stunning imagery, far more powerful than human vision. The cool thing is they have figured out how to power the whole thing though the nervous system and all recordings are made to the new brain they install in your head when you get the camera. The capacity is amazing. And they also install a RAW port in the base of the skull for going out to other devices.

Never thought I would see the day. Now I'll always have my camera with me and weight is no longer an issue.

Congrats Red team!

By the way, you guys never cease to amaze me with how you're able to keep us on the edge of our seats. This is fun.

Maybe in 50 years when nano technology is more advanced will we be capable of doing that. We could wear eye contacts that can project images on them, they already have nano screens the width of a hair.
