  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Big Change...

brainburst and I have been advocating against 2/3" and for a 16:9 four/thirds size sensor for a lot of reasons but particularly due to a lack of 2/3" lenses that a) are reasonably priced and b) actually could resolve 3K as ALL existing were designed for less than 2K - most much less. Some highend 16mm lenses would handle 3K, but there isn't much out there and a lot more expensive than SLR lenses.
So the 4/3 camera would be $3K, too, and there's a nonbreathing 8x constant-T-stop 4/3 (or micro-4/3) T2.4?

they figured out that if you reverse polarity on the mysterium chip - it becomes a 4K projector...

Sweet!

I was wondering when they might figure that one out...

I don't think the announcement will be product related,I suspect it will be more strategic,
some kind of deal, that will have far more reaching implications for the industry.
We'll all just have to wait and see.

The 13th was insignificant...

Jim

You guys at RED are aliens !!!
What will happen when you get some sleep :matrix:

Maybe we will become obsolete...

Cameras that do not need us...

I am scared of all of this...

But I love it

But... how can we edit this much big files in a normal 4 GB ram supporting pc or notebook? u guys have to solve this problem too.. and why can't consider pre CS4 with out the help of AF!

He said " Everything has changed... just as we promised. :-) "

what does he mean by EVERYTHING? i guess everything, prices, specifications, i do think its more like the BRAINS will have new specs? maybe they will only release 2 scarlets? entry level(fixed lens) and mid level (35mm - something between EPIC and the entry level scarlet?)

It's so obvious!

It's so obvious!

On December 3rd, Jim will announce his acquisition of the US economy, starting with an economic revialization plan focused around having US automakers stop making cars, and instead begin the mass manufacture of Scarlet and Epic brains. Next stop... the world!

Jim, let me rest a couple of weeks, I NEED VICODIN!
Let me remember last two weeks:
1. New Red cameras Anouncement
2. New RedAlert/RedRushes Betas
3. New FCP oficial workflow
4. ....
I own two red one and promise you to buy new toys but I´m gonna vomit, this pace of events is... dramatic.

You must be jocking of course??

I just wish you'd make good use of emoticons, because for a sec I thought you were serious.:waaa:

Emmanuel

not joking at all. I believe that at some point changes in paper have to stop and a actual camera has to be built. Off course we all want better technology at better prices...but at some point you have to take the plunge.

One could get trapped in the infinite loop of "but wait..we now figured out how to do this and that" and then one month later "and now look at this" while all the while the camera gets stuck on the drawing board.

It's not about getting a RED ONE if I am not happy with the Scarlet or Epic announcements...it's about getting what has been promised.

I am not pissed or angry at any of these announcements. As all of you, I am extremely excited about change...as long as it does not delay the delivery of the promised models, change all you want!

Oh, no .... not AGAIN.

BTW:
Bad timing. I'm at the Camerimage Festival in Poland at that time. But maybe I might skip the Kodak presentation: "Rising the bar for future performance and productivity". Funny, the title sounds like a typical Jannard-slogan.

So the 4/3 camera would be $3K, too, and there's a nonbreathing 8x constant-T-stop 4/3 (or micro-4/3) T2.4?

On price, no big reason the price has to go up much, some more silicon but much less than S35 and the same number of pixels, in a micron size they already know how to make. Wouldn't change the body or processing requirements so no big delay there.

As far as lenses, No 8x t2.4 but there is a 14-35 F2.0, 35-100 F2.0 and a 150 F2 prime which are equivalent on S35 REDONE to 17-43, 35-123, and 185 on a RED, ALL AT F2 (think superspeeds) - a full stop faster than the lenses from RED or Canon/Nikon. AND these are fully modern lenses (for example the 14-35 uses "18 Elements in 17 Groups. 2 ED lenses, Aspherical ED lens and Aspherical lens designs".) AND specifically designed for digital sensors, WHICH IS NOT INSIGIFICANT, most lenses designed for film are significantly degraded on digital sensors.

In addition most other SLR lenses can be adapted or in the case of Sigma and others that make lenses in multiple mounts they can easily make it in four thirds mount (Sigma is a member of the four/thirds consortium.) For instance the Sigma 18-50 - which is the basis for the RED 18-50 - is available in four thirds mount, as well as the 70-200 F2.8 and 300-800 f5.6 (390-1080 on S35/redone).

http://www.four-thirds.org/en/products/lense.html

No there isn't a constant aperture 8x T2.4. There is a leica 14-150 3.5/5.6 11:1. That just gives RED a target lens to create. But as far as I know nothing like that exists for 2/3" that was developed for greater than 1080p except maybe a 16mm and how much is that? Yes, RED was to develop one for the integral lens Scarlet but who knows how long it would take to deliver that? We are talking the interchangeable lens version.

You make me not want to sleep, because then this crap happens.

So you announce a 3K Scarlet with a fixed lens that shoots 120fps for $3000. People are amazed but everyone's greedy as hell and they complain.

"I want interchangeable lenses!"
"I want an S35 sensor!"

Me being the pessimist tell them all to shut up and be satisfied with an already revolutionary idea. But what do you do? You give them what they want.

So I'm done being a pessimist, and I seriously wouldn't doubt it if you gave us a 5K Monstro Scarlet that shoots 200fps. You guys are out of your bloody minds.

But I think the best announcement you could possibly give is a sooner release date. I'm so tired of HDV I can't even stand it.

Guys, notice one thing - unlike the November 13th announcement - there is no "IN PROCESS OF CHANGE" on the EPIC, nor the SCARLET links on red.com. So the announcement has nothing to do with any design changes to the DSMC system. That only leaves the tech. specs, something related to Red One, something about the company itself, or just a completely new product not yet mentioned - in order to warrant the "13 was insignificant" comment...

Just my 2 cents...

:) Peter

I'm with you Peter, I don't believe it's a change to the products just announced. I think it will be a new product/s (product line/s) all together.
Maybe...
- Affordable display technologies (3K-6K(and 3D) projectors and/or displays)
- Something to do with REDRay and playback
- A drastic workflow change

...none of those really make Nov 13th look insignificant though... so... it's something better than what I've just said. ;)
