  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Beware Globalmediapro batteries are sometimes late at shipping

Yes, if you get the RED compatible batteries:
http://www.globalmediapro.com/dc/CA...-Power/Mount-V-Lock/Batteries-for-Red-Camera/

AND use a compatible plate that passes the % data, like the switronix from Wooden Camera.
I have a couple of those RED compatible batteries and the Switronix mount. My Epic shows volts, not percentages for the batteries.

As for the thread title, there's nothing wrong with the batteries themselves so the title should have been "BEWARE OF GLOBALMEDIAPRO". It's a BS thread anyway... (no, not Bomb Squad)

Hey Tim,
Where are you located? There are probably several people on this board who could help you out with a few batteries for a few days. You'll love your GMP's. Do you have a plate to mount them?
Cheers,
Sam

I've been using GMPs 160w Red v-locks since I got my Red One, and now use them on my Scarlet. They have been perfect for the nearly 2 years I've been shooting with them. Yes, their delivery times can vary, but I've never had it take more than 10 business days from order to delivery, and sometimes are short as 3.

Too many glitches for me with this company, I'll keep my bricks. Not refurbished/celled batteries. Sorry I want a deal too, if you rig shorts out on you and it's not covered by RED don't cry to Jim, Jarred or Brent.

PS - You are allowed to bring two bricks with you in your carry-on.

I ordered 4 and they got to the US in 5 days, no glitches. I suspect they got very popular so they might have run into backorder

I have this setup and it works perfectly. Shows battery %. You sure you have the -R version of the batteries? They make the same batteries without the % circuity. A few people on here have purchased those by mistake.

I believe this could be because of how your battery plate wired. I was looking at getting a custom wired plate (with a long cable) several months ago and I was told it would not be wired to to display the % and would only show volts. If it's not this then you have the wrong batteries...

Their batteries came to me lightening fast, they actually covered a cost deficit because my bank errored with currency type, and the batteries have performed flawlessly. My experience. To each their own.

I had the same experience...we are really liking their 190's, lots of runtime on each battery and charge time isn't anything awful.

Mike and Brandon, I had a RED ONE for two years so I made sure the batteries I bought were of the RED variety.

There was one odd thing: R1 would not show percentage for the first battery. I ordered another one later, and R1 displayed percentage for that one immediately. The funny thing is that after I had used the second one, the first one began communicating % to the camera as well. But now my Epic shows voltage only for both batteries. I don't consider it much of a problem, to be honest.

This cracks me up.. Josh you've not been on that long.. You're still a newbie.. You just post like a maniac! (I remember those days)

BTW you coming to NAB?

And you sir are a shameless self promoter. Yes to NAB if, for nothing else, to get a room with you and snuggie up.

See you at Jason's gig!

I bought 6 non red batterie at GMP because i don't care of % and like volts. They work perfectly on the Red or Epic with the Viewfactor battery plate, and does not work with the Wooden Camera batterie plate.
When I saw that, I send them an email for changing the batteries for the "R" version but did not get any answer from them. Then, I decided to change the batterie plate and not the batteries, and I have great result with them now.
So, OK, not the best communication between customers and GMP but the battery are great for the price.

Hi all. This is Tim, the original poster of this thread. My only hope in posting the warning was to simply alert the RED community of what I feel was an unfair transaction and business practice on the part of Globalmediapro. It is not spam. There's two sides to every coin which most of the follow up posts on this thread have ignored and made ridiculous assumptions about me and my reasons for posting. No surprise there. Common in our industry. I'm sure their products are good. I researched them for hours prior to ordering and read the good reviews. In my situation, GMP ignored my email to cancel the order after the changed their shipping date to a week later than originally promised.

Instead of simply dismissing this incident or sluffing it off with sarcasm, if you're considering buying from them, just realize that there's no room for error and you have no recourse for a refund or changing your mind. In the U.S., the normal business practice is a 3-day right or recision. Not so here.

Are you talking about consumer or business purchases? I guess you better go to Wallmart next time.

That has not been my experience. Things go into back-order and aren't necessarily reflected on their website instantly all the time. And when you're dealing with a wire transfer... all bets are off.
