  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

That would be elegant and proactive, instead of turning certain words into nonsensical substitutions without any explanation. That just confuses people and makes REDuser look like it doesn't have its act together 100%. It also gives the impression that RED the company is concerned about losing business to Canon- and specifically the 7 D. (Which I don't personally believe is the purpose but sure does give this idea to anyone who's not living in your heads.)

We know you guys are 'just mods and you don't work for RED' but this forum is also the main method of communication the company has chosen to adopt-- so what you do here speaks directly for the company, intentionally or not. And if this is supposed to be the official board of a successful billion dollar company, consistent, elegant and proactive are qualities you'd want customers and potential customers to know you for, aren't they? :thumbsup:

I can't agree more. Blocking words like this is a bit weird. They are not blocking 5D or T2i why block "7-D"? Why not block HDV and Sony or Panavision? Blocking Soccer-Moms is one thing, thats fun and games, but blocking another cameras name or title just seems wrong.

Just because letters turn into a joke if you write 7 + D together instead of 7-D or 7 D ?

If they wanted to block camera's name you wouldn't be able to write 7-D also.

Exactly the point- it's an inconsistent policy. Why block one iteration of a term that's objectionable to the powers that be and leave open other ways to say the exact same thing? Block them all and present a policy that's simple, fair and easily enforced by the mods (who are just doing their jobs):

Ban any REDuser threads not specifically about RED cameras (or about brands/products intended for use with RED cameras) and send them somewhere else.

Maybe I'm wrong but that makes more sense to me... :sifone:

I think this has to do more with the types of comments and threads that arose from the betacam (and I wrote betacam.. just for fun) fan boys. If it was people over here making wild claims and starting pointless threads about the gh1 then I'm sure they would block that. I feel that some people are a little defensive because they were one of the people to mention their betacam every other post. While others feel that their freedom of speech is being restricted. Well I'm sorry but this is a company's website and what they do with it is up to them. (not red but still a group who gets to decide these things not us if we don't like it we can go elsewhere)

I got a little upset when the other camera's section was removed but then I realized that I really didn't get that much out of it other than correcting peoples horribly inaccurate comments (perhaps very similar to this post). Now if I want info on betacams and other similar cameras I go to Phillip bloom or dvxuser, there is a little more sifting on dvx and a whole lot more trolls and FUD but it's better than imdb (what isn't).

when it comes down to it most of the conversations about this camera blew up and resorted to personal attacks. I feel this has little to do with the camera itself and more to do with the overblown obsession people have with it. I know new technologies are fun but they tend to create snobs and breed envy and jealousy. People look down or scoff at things that came before without having the proper respect or understanding of them.

hopefully we can move past this without any further escalation. It would be nice to have red allow the competitors fan boys to have free run of the site, and have them put in their place. Unfortunately it's not always possible even the most eloquent of people can be tripped up or triggered by the harassment of avid internet trolls. And it would only be so long before late one night a red staffer slips up and said something they shouldn't or take something to far. And attempting to remove that clutter and avoid any pointless arguments that could potentially help spread misinformation or hurt the company, is a good idea to me.

REDuser is our house.. and its not a house with pink walls and white picket fences. It is more of a dirty bunker with explosions going off every 7 seconds, housed with an army of RED employees and customers that are all fighting the war against " it's good enough "

We are not normal. Normal people don't work this hard. We love what we do. We live what we do. Everyone that works at RED has multiple personality disorders. Its a Job requirement.

I know I need to goto Charm school. My friends and my enemies tell me that every day. I get pamphlets for charm schools sent to me in the mail. So when I say to you people that can't take a joke "to go fuck yourselves".. don't take it personal. I need help.

I have to scratch my head when I see a spokesman for a company that plans release a product to the mass market addressing the general public in this fashion. If Red were planning to remain a boutique shop I might understand it better, but this I just don't understand at all.

choose to whom you want to sell.

Oh I'm sure it's a scream in a small group, but this is out there... Exactly whom did Jarred just tell to fuck themselves? A consumer electronics magazine columnist perhaps? As of right now this thread has over 1900 unique views and it only takes one (The wrong one.) to screw the pooch.

It just strikes me as a dangerous practice, especially with the consumer Scarlet launch being as little as three months away. I want Red to do well, so I have to say this is just a little worrisome to see as often as I have here.

Yes, but that = boutique shop. Red it seems, has larger ambitions than that. Their pricing scheme depends upon scale.

I've read once te reason why some people dislike RED is because of Reduser.

But is there an alternative if that's the only place you can get info about the upgrade of your camera and the latest software?
