Build 13 has been released on RED.com. This Build resolves the hiss reported on boot up.

WARNING: Unless upgrading from Build 12, a BLACK SHADING calibration must be performed. More detailed instructions are contained in the Operations Guide (v.1.8.8) included in download.

Thanks, BC

The "only" new feature in Build 13 is the hiss resolution in audio. We wanted to act fast on this to get it resolved. All other features are the same as Build 12. But, anytime you introduce new code, we are going to keep it as beta until it checks out.

Yes, you can always download Build 12 from the support site under "Release History" and re-install.

As is blasted everywhere, once you go Build 12 or later, you CANNOT go back to pre-Build 12.

Hi Brent,

Does the Beta have the Skew fix?

Can I easily go back to Build 12 if the Beta is not working well for me.

Jonathan

I thought we had a surprise in Build 13 but it is being held off for the monster build... 14. Sorry.

Skew (read/reset) is back to normal. Which means a bit more than 35mm film and way less than most other CMOS cameras.

Wow... puts whole new meaning to "Once you go black... you will never go back"

Hi Jim,

So does the Beta 13 build have the Skew the same as Build 11?

Currently same as Build 11. We are working on a slight improvement still in Build 15.

Just so you know... skew is less with 2:1 instead of 16:9. If the final is 2:35, there is an absolute advantage to shooting 2:1.

Ok I'll bite........ Why does 2:1 have an advantage?

Jim, this is really great to know ! Thank you !

Just out of curiosity, do you know at this point if there will ever be a 2:35 recording option ?

We will deliver 95% of our material at 2:35, it would be great if we could use those extra pixels for a slightly stronger compression ratio (Graham's compression rocks majorly, I'm just being greedy ! :) )

Read/reset is the time to read and reset from top to bottom of the frame. 2:1 has 2048 lines and 16:9 has 2304 lines to read and reset. 12.5% faster.

There are several options in development (with a few surprises). 2:35 native is a great option because the skew will be the least and the data rate could be increased.

Please put Build 14 on your calendar.

Great Stuff.... can you estimate projected Data rates at current Mps?
Is that r3d RAW (26Mps)?

Dave

Build 14 is worth waiting for... that's all I can say.
