  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

I'm sorry but I shouldn't' have to stand by and watch other people get perfectly good working units AND be disrespected by the company by not getting an answer to my emails for over a month! Especially after I did the amount of work I did for this company. Not to mention the fact that I paid them for my unit and I had to pay for shipping and duties twice because I already sent my first unit back to get (unsuccessfully) repaired.

If anyone wants to buy my Beast, PM me.

I'm selling it for 50% off retail. It comes with a 3-year warranty.

Carey,

Sorry to hear about the issues with your unit but, if I were you, I would just send the faulty unit to ACR (BeSteady) instead of waiting to get a replacement unit.
I know it is very frustrated having a gear that is not functioning properly as you mentioned. However, it is even more frustrated if you have not been able to touch the product you have paid in full in 2013 while some others have received the same product for almost a year.

Jay,

As third in line, I can assure you that no-one in this group buy has had a BeSteady 4/Beast "for almost a year". Not even close. I can also tell you that, after sending them in for repair once (as they didn't even work on receipt) as I know Carey has also had to do, and it took 3 months to get it back, you too would be very wary to "just send the unit to ACR" for repair again. Especially if they're not even communicating with you.

Carey, to put it mildly, deserves a response AND action. I'm very disappointed in ACR/BeSteady for this shabby treatment of our GB leader. At a time when they need to be building up their reputation, this is hardly the way to go about it.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your support...This situation has permanently retired me from ever doing another GB again.
I just got a response from Piotr so I will stay quiet and give ACR a chance to rectify the problem.

Damn, it's sad to hear about your case. I sincerely hope it works out this time!
You deserve way better and if i were in ACR's position i would do anything to make you happy. Highest priority. You should get a bonus on top, just saying.
Thank you very much for the hard work on this GB, i appreciate every minute you have sacrificed to bring this mess back on track.

Hi Guys, new to this Thread and Group, i am in the process of also buying a Beast from ACR and have a small question for you guys that have had more experience than me:

i worked with the "Allsteady 7" alexmos 32 bit Based stabilizer 2 weeks ago. Not a really good experience, but at some point got it to work after lot of trial and error.

One thing was major for getting it to work: without the additional Top Bar that has an extra attachment to the Top of the Camera additionally to the base plate a working setup with a RED EPIC was basically not possible. so it seems to me a top bar is helping big time in stabilizing / balancing / camera not leading to vibrations that pile up and shake up in combo with the motors. Like a big giant tower leaning back and forth and getting worse and worse dynamic.

Is this correct in general for all gimbals and if so will there be a Top bar / Attachment for the Beast to also connect the EPIC top to the Gimbal to improve on that aspect, if needed?

thx a lot and greetings

alex

No Top Bar on the Beast, but also not needed here, we did some shots today driving 80km/h with a full rigged epic with Follow Focus , Video transmitter, Mattebox and Cooke S4 Lens, the motor settings where at around 45% and the Beast worked rocksteady. No vibration, no failure . this thing is a tank !
There is one minor bug in the software causing the roll axis to offset a few degrees after startup, but thats something you can fix within 20 sec.

What's the plan? Can you update us on what you have decided and progress?

Thanks

Overall i think it's good news to see ACR/BeSteady moving forward and beyond "The Beast".

Question: Do you guys think about offering something to us longterm investors? I'm actually not demanding it, but i want to know before i make a decision to invest even more into this through KS. You know after all that's a truly difficult decision to make.

I would love to help fund this project but:
Weapon upgrade
Mini SSD upgrade plus reader and side SSD recorder
Tilta WFF
Tilta Armor Man
and dealing with a

Shitty Canadian Dollar

oh well such is life.

...wouldn't it be a nice feature to record and replay movement-data of the Grip?

That leads to the idea of recording the stabilizing data of our beloved FOUR/TheBeast and use that with software in post (for further stabilizing like SteadXP and VFX-stuff).

Seems to me that we as GB'ers already have quite a discount when this is available under our discounts that were promised in being part of this group buy.. So it might even be less expensive to wait until its funded and shipping and then use the discount to buy one of these.??Or am I missing something?

Maybe an update might give us hope that we will be able to use this Grip and link with something soon. Would be really counter productive in my opinion to have the Grip and Link to a gimbal I was still waiting for.

I went ahead and signed up as a backer for the Grip. This run is going to help ACR establish more regular cash flow and build a more stable company by expanding their customer base. I know this is something I'm looking to add to my package now or down the line, so I'm happy to sign up now if it helps keep Besteady around and find further development or help establish the resources for a web store. This solution is going to be way cheaper than the Mimic will (or was, maybe, after they see this competitor) be.

Thanks for the Info Manuel! That sounds good that it can all do it! But just out of Interest: would it help, even if only a little for heavier Camera Setups to add myself a Top Bar to it or don't you think so ?

Looks really Great and it is fully developed already and not far from being shipped. Backed it!

Hello,

thank you for all your help in taking decision. We will be performing those upgrades for you, and we will be informing you about progress of our work with .v2 electronics.

We would like to give many thanks to Michael Kromschroeder for his help in implementing those modifications. He proved to be very helpful and we appreciate his technical knowledge and expertise that lead us to finding the best solution to make The Beast even better.

Best
Peter

Howdy guys,

Peter will update status (or he's doing it right now as I write this post).

First of all I would like to thank Michael Kromschroeder for help and support - his knowledge and experience greatly improved overall design of V2 board and couple of different small things in The Beast.

I'm working on 1.8 fw for The Beast currently. New things that will show up:
  • FIX: In autotuning the result from pitch axis used to be saved as the result for roll axis as well.
  • Added a "Long Lens" function in "Performance" menu
  • FIX: There was an error in the new autotune algorithm causing the slider steps below 50% to be skipped.
  • New Autotune algorithm
  • FIX: Battery voltage indicator was broken when the voltage reported by the main board was below 1V
  • Antimayhem mode - if one of encoders isn't working properly gimbal will switch into "stall mode" and will show up proper alert
  • Autotune parameters and tables are loaded from a file: "ROOT:\autotune.bsp"
  • OLED data is now sent using DMA
  • FIX: Menu icons were not displayed and the frame was displayed incorrectly
  • Battery calibration voltage level tweak
  • Battery calibration functionality added
  • Service screen now shows the internal temperature (temp. offset is hardcoded).
  • Added a Service Screen which shows encoder offsets and real-time data
  • Added "RC Pitch Invert" setting in "Control" menu
  • "Calibrate Gyro" function moved to a lower posision in the menu
  • FIX: "Skip gyro calib." icon glitch
  • Added Screen Lock functionality
  • Added support for shortcuts on Summary Screen and Battery Monitor
  • Added shortcuts:
DOWN: Switching between Summary Screen and Battery Monitor
LEFT: Toggle Follow Pan
UP: Toggle Follow Tilt
  • Added follow mode indicators on Summary Screen
  • Added RC Tilt Speed and RC Pan Speed
  • Added custom profile names
  • Slight performance improvement in wave player
  • Frame refresh now uses 5 ms timer intervals instead of 1 ms.
  • Menu drawing functions now take better care of oversized text
  • Save Profile(s) now also saves the custom name of the profile.
  • Added "Default RCU" function that resets RCU settings to defaults for all profiles
  • Added confirmation for autotune
  • Updated PIDology
This is just part of a changelist. 1.8 should be ready after final tests, one to two weeks. If somebody would like to have beta version (don't worry, it won't damage gimbal) - please let me know.

About The Grip and The Link (you may follow up here for details www.kickstarter.com/projects/besteady/the-grip-and-the-link-ultimate-kinetic-gimbal-cont ) - currently on Kickstarter we got very affordable pledge levels, after this project SRP will be slightly higher. We are working on special offer for you guys as well - so if you won't support us during Kickstarter, there will be still good deal for you waiting afterwards. But do not hesitate - success of this project depends on support, as always on Kickstarter!

About The Grip - we got special extended goal that we will do anyways - this is Telemetry feature. It will be pretty much... remote OnBoard Manager for The Beast. Hardware has been designed to support such a feature.

I will feed news about V2 directly to you and Peter. Working on this subject as well. Almost living in company has got one good side - I'm almost always working! ;-)

Best regards,
Max

Maks, Piotr,
Thanks for that update even if it doesn't reply to our most important question: when will we receive our unit?
Great job on the Grip but, I speak for myself, I've already backed up one of your product more than a year ago and so far it didn't pay so I won't participate to this Kickstarter campaign...
BTW Piotr, which decisions are you talking about? What is V2? Did I miss something?
