  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

I just emailed with Brent and sorry guys, but the old thread is permanently gone. Poof.

But you can search cached pages on google: https://www.google.com/search?q=sit...h=1064&ei=gUE4VMeTJ4PesASXrICQAw&start=0&sa=N

This cache probably won't be around for long. If anyone has time today to visit and PDF these pages it would serve as documentation of this epic journey. (no pun intended)

Problem is, it's not a full cache of each page - some pages are only half full of info - or have a few posts... it's all to do with 'when' Google cached it.

Can't believe it was deleted permanently... bit of a nightmare, to be honest.

Why on earth would Red delete a thread with so much information which was so important to many RedUsers? Deleting, with no warning so the users effected could archive, is strange to me.

Yup - it's left us all high and dry, IMO.

Not something I really expected from RED... and I can't believe there isn't a backup... there has to be one somewhere.

Also, just tried Google cache saving - it's pointless. After 3 pages, Google thinks you're a Bot and asks for constant captchas to prove you're not a robot. Plus, the caches are incomplete pages anyway.

Very perplexed on this.

David - maybe there's an option to get SQL database from day before it dissapeared? Usually such a forum has got automatic backup system, so there should be database files stored somewhere...

Second question - in your first movies there was clearly visible pan left-right bobbing. Did you tried running Autotune option on your gimbal, David?

Firmware build 242 being tested during this weekend. Couple interesting options will show up: default RCU config via OnBoard Manager (MZ12 setup), higher Autotune resultion, tweaks for lighter and heavier cameras in PIDology 2.0, autoinverted camera shelf option for mounting cameras to top plate, and many other smaller tweaks.

I did use Autotune yes. Basically I balanced it on the stand, started up, then ran calibrate, then Autotune.
I think the pan balance was difficult to get perfect my first time with the Four.
I will hope to have some time to work further with my Four this weekend. And I'll balance carefully before Autotune.

As far as Reduser's database I could press them to restore from a backup, but I'm 99% sure that would just anger the gods. Go ahead if you feel lucky.
I'm seeing a great deal of it in the google cache though.

David,
Did Brent offer any specific reason for deleting all that information? Was it for the GB "rules" that were brought up this week?

David - after 3 pages of saving or viewing the cache, Google starts viewing you as a bot (see my earlier post)... I was going to sit and save off each page (I'm waiting fro stuff to come off the renderfarm at the moment)... but I don't think it's worth it... there must be a way to get the data.

PC: I'll find out more info about the accessories pack once the team is back in the office after the weekend.

Regarding the lost thread - I know that some of you have pages archived as e-mail updates. Would it be possible to compile those into a PDF or link that can be shared amongst RedUsers?

Exactly...gimbals w/o power cables = nearly useless as shoe horning in alternate solutions change weight, COG etc dramatically.

I was planning on testing the BS4 with the included X large battery to power the camera, but since I didn't get the cables needed in my shipment, I was unable to do so. I don't have a power solution currently since I sold my Redvolts so I will have to rent some for the upcoming test shoot.

And so the differences with MoVI may be starting to surface...once balanced (a quick process) M10/15 takes just a minute or two to adjust one setting per axis until motor vibrates, then you back it off a bit till it's quiet and your *done* - bam, a very well behaved gimbal. Alex Moss auto tune is a joke currently and manually guessing inter-related settings is a frustrating and glacially slow process. Was really hoping / expecting B4 would be quick & easy to set up to keep up with demands on busy sets.

Carey, ain't that how it is...no time when ya need it lol. I eagerly await your test results...best of luck.

Thank you,

i'll wait until i get one i my hand but this is not good news, Alexmos tuning can be painful and i was hoping to get something more in line of the movi (the whole BS custom software thing)..

I must be missing something - what exactly is the bad news?
I had a half hour free to work with it and I quickly tried to balance, autotune and shoot something so you all could see that basically the unit works. People seem to be eager to jump to conclusions. Patience grasshoppers

the bad news is that according to PC Greene tuning PID on BS4 is comparable to other alexmos based gimbal, meaning slow and a pain to get it right. i experimented with both system and i was expecting something in the line of Movi.
but of course this is only speculation until i get an actual unit in my hand and conduct tests myself (no jumping to conclusion!)

Don't worry. The BS4 uses a custom software interface (BeSteady Manager). It's extremely user friendly and nothing like the AlexMos Simple BGC. You can also adjust settings directly using the OLED screen and 5 button keyboard on the rear arm.

<edited as I overreacted>

1. BS4 has got 100% custom software, no PID's, our own autotune algo, sliders for each motor.
2. Cables are accessories. There's no gimbal capable of powering RED directly from camera shelf currently on the market. So 'my gimbal will be worthless without those cables' isn't true. It will be like other devices that are out there right now.
3. Again, BS4 software/hardware solution ISN'T ALEXMOS. We are constantly repeating that... We are working directly with Aleksiey Moskalenko and his team, but this solution is so called Hybrid Board, exclusive BeSteady FOUR solution.

It's all speculation right now. Let's keep things positive, please.

We'll know in a few weeks how the BS4 stacks up against the best of the best on the planet - MōVI M15.

We've waited over a year, let's be patient a few more weeks.

Thank you!

Loic - this is incorrect. My tests were absolutely not a pain to get it darn close to perfect. And PC doesn't have a unit yet. Carey and I will do more extensive tests this week. Hang on before you judge.

2. Cables are accessories.

Maks,

We were led to believe that everything would be going out at once - hence the dismay you are hearing

On July 7th, you told us:
"All accessories listed before will be send the same day, one package. We need only one more cable from list - but those should be in our hands soon."

Also within the same post:
"Shipping timeline for accessories are the same because of last delay"

Could you please clarify - what happened to the cables you indicated were already in stock at BeSteady three months ago?
Perhaps those can be included in each case being shipped out.
