  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

I'm having trouble on big setups.
Not on the gimbal motors, but on the balancing.
I just can't do it. I wanted to use the full 6kg maximum load, so I have put a Scarlet MX, PL mount, an Ekran 35mm, a 95w battery, and didn't rig down the camera, leaving top plate, action product modules (size of a +1 module+vlock). 6kg for a total lenght of 33cm.
It's too long, either the lens or battery touches the gimbal.

I know, I know it's not supposed to be powered by the camera itself, but my weapon can't reach 6kg now as I have yet to receive all the accessories.
As it's not balanced perfectly, the motors are getting crazy when I boot up. I just shut down the beast.

What we need if you want to use full setups at 6kg, is like on the Ronin, tilt axis expander rods and a longer dovetail for zooms. My Ekran 25-80 is too long, I can't balance at all.

If a Ronin does it (even customized by cinemilled) a Beast should do it better.

Hello Berenger,

please contact Maciej from our technical support - he will help you. It is possible that you will have to customize your gear a bit or there is some trick that you can use. I know that guys are using bigger and heavier configurations on Beasts so it is only matter of finding proper solution for you.

Hello Guys,

I'm sorry for delay but I was forced to clear some export problems with UPS. Cable packs are in transit now so they should be in your hands in short time - they are being delivered by express.

Soon, very soon, I will share a very sad story about UPS and the delivery of my Gimbal. I really don't like UPS - look at how long we have been made to wait for cables that were shipped a week ago.

Just received mine. It will be next week before I can check it out though.

Just received my cable pack, very excited to get it built on the gimbal and test it out once my camera comes back from RED!

For those who are in Canada, did you have to pay UPS duties and Taxes for your cable pack, and how much? Even though I've already paid UPS one payment of $802.00 which includes the cable pack that I didn't get. What I mean to say is, UPS lost my shipment of the gimbal and refused to return my payment. Then they charged me more money for the replacement and they are now asking for more for a cable pack. Is there anyone out there who can answer my first question? I truly hate UPS! I will never use them and never recommend them.

Cable pack has landed (along with my missing battery plate)! UPS charged me CAD $13.88.

Hello Guys,

from what I understand only Canadian Custom Office is charging for those items - those were send as free gifts/samples with minimal value so they shouldn't even process them... apparently I was wrong. It looks like Canadian Custom Office is even worse than Polish counterpart. I couldn't believe that it is possible :/

I'm sorry for that - I was trying to avoid such problems but as it seems they appear.

Has anyone powered their gimbal and camera off of a A ton HC Dionic or similar mid 90wh battery yet? I think that's my next mod, but wanted to know if anyone had done tests or had performance notes or notes on how long the battery lasts. Would be less hassle than lipos.

Jordan,
I've been powering the Epic with AB HC's and powering the beast with the small lipos. The lipos inside the tubes will run just the gimbal for a couple of long days shooting. And the AB on the handle bar powers everything else a reasonable amount of time.....say about and hour. That setup has served me well so far. I'm looking forward to doing some testing with the large lipos and the just received cable pack powering everything and see how that works.

Hey Steve,

That's a similar setup to what I run, though I balance the Anton HC's on the back of the RED. I'm trying to determine the experience or possibility of powering the gimbal, camera, and accessories off of an Anton mounted on the handlebars through the v2 beasts power distribution. I love the innovation of the tubular lipos and they have been great to me, but to be able to run everything with without voltage checkers, concerns over losing batteries to over discharge, or charging different formats of batteries each night, would be great.

Hello Guys,

we have slight delay with deliveries caused by third party product. RC controllers from Graupner were delivered to us with GR-12L receivers instead of GR-16 and we need to replace them. It's being done right now so shipments will be send in next week.

I'm sorry for that.

FWIW, I did a bit of testing with the large lipos running the Beast, Epic, wireless focus, and Paraliinx.

Total run time was approx. 28 min. and it took about 2.5 hours to re-charge the battery.

I think I'm going to go with splitting the load, running the focus and Paralinx off the camera shelve with internal tube lipos and the camera off an AB on the handle bars. With this setup I'll only have the EVF cable and a super thin (custom) power cable coming from the camera to the handlebar.

All in all, loving the performance and ease of set up......

Hello Steve,

please remember that you can't connect two power sources - from large battery and small - through gimbal at the same time. The Beast can be powered by one power source during work. So if I understand correctly you will be using small batteries to power up the unit and follow focus and Paralinx and AB to power up RED only?

I'm glad to hear that you like working with The Beast

Piotr,
That's correct, only one power source for the beast, focus and Paralinx (small batteries) and an AB to power the Epic.
