  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

Fingers crossed for the next batch of 6 then!

Better believe it! I'm just worried now about how this Dangerous Goods shipping restriction that Peter mentions is going to affect me since I'm in Canada. Will my batteries come across the Atlantic on a cruise ship, or maybe across the Pacific via oil tanker? Plus DHL is the worst shipping company I've ever dealt with. Who knows how long until I get a fully operational unit.

Anyhow, we've already written a bunch of ridiculously fun 1 to 2 minute shorts (ex. A pro-smoking PSA for couples with troubled relationships looking to start a hobby together) that we'll film to test the gimbal once it arrives. Waiting with cautious optimism.

UNBOXING THE 4

UNBOXING THE 4

Received mine last night - DHL left at door when I wasn't home... sigh...
Threw up a Gopro on a selfie stick mounted to counter. i haven't read the manual, but did look at the "Before you start" sheet inside the Pelican. I had an M10, so thought it would be pretty straight forward... It was.
Only used on board OLED display. Gotta dig a little deeper into fine tuning, but unit was setup for Red weight out of box pretty well.

First impressions... It's very well made, OLED programming on board indispensable, light weight (especially with tube batts *not used in video), excellent case - easy to balance

On some boots, unit doesn't get horizon, but going to FOLLOW in menu and checking pan, tilt, and roll corrects that. Although when I turn "roll follow" off again it sometimes goes back to bad horizon... Thumbstick behavior erratic. BUT again, I just got this last night and HAVE NOT READ THE MANUAL

That roll issue was the same on Jordan's unit when I Skyped with him last night. Exactly the same issue.

Mark - unboxing, a great idea... now we all know what to expect! Thanks for doing this :)

Mmm - maybe a software bug then? If all units are suffering this, but it's on random boots and can be corrected by checking/unchecking functions, it sounds like a software bug (spent quite a few years in videogames, so dealt with a lot of code issues - they can be a real PITA and give a lot of strange/unexpected results).

Otherwise, it's hardware... but, if it's hardware, an error should happen all the time (in theory)... guess we'll await an official word on this to clarify.

The PSA's sound fun :)

We called them PIF's (Public information filims).... this one always unsettled me as a youngster (child of the 70's - a real old timer :) - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/1964to1979/filmpage_lonely.htm - maybe it's Donald Pleasence's voice...

There are loads of great ones - the 60's and 70's were the pinnacle for PIF's in the UK... search through the library in the 64-79 region and have a laugh at UK life! http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/1964to1979/

Here's another (cartoon) with a Mad Axeman (!) - sadly not in the archives site yet... but worth a watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAjWdYQ0h38

Right... errr... back to BS4's... sorry, Beasts!!! ahem :)

Mark, thanks for taking the time and effort to do the video. It's great to finally see a unit in a users hands. Well done!

my pleasure - It's been a looooooooooooong wait....
I'm confident that the FOUR was worth it. Any bugs will likely be worked out with firmware updates. When you see and feel the unit for yourself, it's much more obvious that extra time and care went into the development of this gimbal.

Hopefully, all is going to come together (at last!) - just need the accessory pack now ;)

As I said before, great job on the video, my box arrived today, but I'm on a deadline (on a CGI job) doing final comps for some shots, slapcomps for others and nudging sequences through the renderfarm, so I can't play with it yet (or maybe I daren't - as I'll end up losing too much time as I get sucked into testing)... but the full unboxing has given a great idea of what to expect and how it all comes together.

Thanks again :)

Hey guys,

My BS4 has finally been released from DHL customs in Vancouver -- ultimately I just went and cleared it myself after days of delays.

Going forward i will just ask ACR to use FedEx even if it means paying extra as DHL has got to be the worst shipper for anything coming through Canada.

Mark, your unboxing video has surely whet my appetite.

It feels surreal knowing there will actually be a BS4 in my car tomorrow morning --

Mark,
This is probably the most awaited unboxing video ever and you did an excellent Job! Thanks!

Hey Peter, another friendly request to find out when the next batch will go out and many units will be included in it?

Ryan, I doubt they are listening or have time right now as they are in post finishing up a new video showcasing the Beast. It really wouldn't kill them if they would just write back and say they are busy. How F'in irritating

Peter is on a sick leave. I'm finishing tutorial movies (The Beast) as well as new 1.8 fw. On Monday Peter will be in company, so he will have option to answer. I do not know when next batch will be shipped, but I do know that it will be 6 or 12 units. One more unit is prepared or left assembly today to another RedUser from list.
Yes, we are busy. It is already 9 PM and probably I will leave office after midnight - as usually. During weekend I will be finishing tutorial edit, it will become great tool for our customer service. 15 short movies, covering everything from balancing, through Manager app, OnBoard Manager, working in Inverted mode, using RC etc. A lot of work in front of me during those two days.

Mark - awesome movie. Did you already went through manual?
