  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BeSteady FOUR Thread

first of all they need to ship working gimbals, thats the most important.
After that i think it would be fair to offer either a special accessories pack for free to compensate for the price drop or a reimbursement, up to the user to choose fom.
Thats what i would like to see.

Hello,
I'm renter in France and I'm using a Red Epic, Sony FS7, Canon C300, Blackmagic 4K.
I hope The Beast is optimized for the FS7.

Hello Guys,

about the price drop. This new price of 5 590 EURO is for new package - FOUR in advanced configuration. The current configuration that is on the market is FOUR Expert with price tag of 6 190 EURO including pelicase, RC controller etc.. And please keep in mind that both of those configurations can't compare to the FOUR in Red-user edition package that comes with large batteries, thumbstick etc.. I can estimate price for such package for roughly 6 800 EURO (without the cables pack). So you don't have to be worried that you have paid almost the same amount that current price of FOUR because it isn't true.

The IOs app is still on its way but it will take us some extra time. We are in contact with Apple to create it with their blessing. Without it, this app can't be completed.

Best
Peter

After a long break in shipping this is quite a milestone. Congrats to that :)
I hope the pace turns up now and we can expect regular shipments.

I'm using a Red Epic, side handle with Redvolt and a Canon 50mm Prime... nothing unusual. The firmware is whatever was on it when you shipped it back to me the second time after repairs. I sent at least 10 messages to Mike via Skype including a video that showed the erratic behavior during autotune, and got no reply. As stated previously, when using autotune, it automatically sets pan/tilt/roll all to 100%... the only way I can get good results is by manually tuning the gimbal. So my question remains: is it a software issue, or a hardware issue?

Edit: I've only ever used the small batteries because we do not have the accessory packs... the large batteries were always intended to power the gimbal + the camera... which I cannot do until I get the proper cabling.
Definitely it is software related issue. We are still tuning alorithms as well as Autotune feature.
Gimbal will be moving during autotune on each axis - around +30 and -30 degrees. Proccess takes usually 2-3 minutes, not more. If you are catching 100% on each slider then probably you are using older firmware version. Please get in touch with me directly via Skype and I will send you proper one for testing.

Next week we will complete major task - retune for sliders. Thanks to that Autotune will be much more accurate, as well we will expand possible weight on camera shelf. There will be also more correspondence between small and large battery slider setup.

Could you check your messages to Mike? I've asked him and he has got nothing on skype for months from you directly. I got some messages from you yesterday but I was on a shot (The Beast tutorials), that we have ended this morning.

Carey: you may use large battery even when you won't be powering anything more than gimbal from those.

So, please send me again your movie and get in touch with me via Skype. I will try to assist you.

Carey and Maks,

My beast has the same autotune issue as yours. It sets the levels up around 90% and then vibrates like crazy.
Only gets smooth when manually set down around 20-25%.

I have skyped with you Maks before about this.

Again without your cables I am using a small BS battery, Epic with side handle batt and LCD around 5kg. for testing.
I have Pri. Firmware 1.43 b7. Sec. Firmware 1.7 build 167.
Is this the most recent build? Same as yours Carey?

did the 12-17 batch already leave to it´s owners or you still waiting for the Peli Cases ?
When do you think the next batch is ready for shipping ?

thanks
Manuel

I have been working with Maks to try to resolve the Autotune issue. It's definitely a firmware/software issue. They are still working out the bugs, so for now you will have to manually tune your BeSteady to make it work properly. Once you manually tune it, it will work perfectly.

Thanks Carey. I'm going to walk into my living room, pick up my unit and manually tune it. Then I'll realize that I don't have my unit yet, I've been hallucinating and manhandling an egg salad sandwich that whole time. #waitingforthebeast

But for real, thanks for the update!

OMG!! Dude I just spit my M&M outta my mouth after reading your post . I'm glad to see a healthy sense of humor here.

I'm not sure an egg salad could handle an Epic... DSLR maybe.

MōVI M15 VS BeSteady FOUR in a head to head battle today. With the Exo testing thrown in. Results to come in days.

Ahh - at last, waiting with baited breath :)

Re: The Stand

The stand is somewhat difficult to work with. When you're lifting the BS off, the handles tend to stick on the plastic knobs. I may try some silicon spray on the knobs. These knobs only go inside the bottom of the handle so it won't affect the grips. I also think the stand would work much better if there were a hole drilled through the bottom of each vertical carbon rod, and its aluminum hole. Then you could use a cotter pin or a bolt to hold the verticals in place while in production. Or just a hole through each CF rod, and then you could zip tie it to the base.

If it were mounted to a C-stand this probably would be less of a problem. Or the entire stand could be mounted to a board with a 3/8 bolt..

PS - I've been testing with an Atlas Camera Support rig. So far so good. I'm expecting to put it into production as soon as I have accessory power cables.
