Sorry if this has been covered alot

Basically, i absolutely love my canon and zeiss primes but need to find a rocking wide lens for the scarlet

I hear great things about the Sigma 14mm 2.8?
Would love the Zeiss ZE 15mm 2.8, I think Zeiss lenses look so beautiful but I'm a bit strapped for cash

Should i get a Sigma 14mm 2.8 or save towards the Zeiss 15mm 2.8?

Anyone used both?
comparisons?

Daniel

The Tokina at 14mm will be just as sharp...Its a bit softer at 11mm but sharp at around 13-14mm. So the benefit of the Tokina is the 11mm,12mm,13mm,15mm,16mm, as well as the 14mm. So you get a little more out of it. Plus the 11mm look is a cool stylized one.

i completely understand what your saying...im just worried it might look too soft
i have a canon 16-35mm 2.8 and I'm just not a fan of that lens
worried it'd be the same with the token 11-16

Test them out before you buy. There are always variations in the same lenses. Only way to test sharpness is to get your hands on the unit you intend on buying, if possible.

You are right, the Canon 16-35 2.8 is a little underwhelming, however I love the Tokina 11-16, and it spends a lot of time on my Scarlet. (I own both) in the 14 range it is the sharpest lens I have.

Anyone got stills from video they have shot on these lens? Would be good to see some comparisons. I am in the same boat as you Daniel, looking for a good wide lens. Was gonna go for the canon 16-35.

Do you really want the best as the title of this post implys, or do you have budget restraints you need to work within?

Mid budget wide zooms...
The Focus Optics Ruby 14-24 is very sharp.
The Duclos 11-16 is a little wider but not as sharp as the Ruby.

Keep in mind when buying lenses, are you planning on renting out your kit? If so, the Ruby or Tokina would be the obvious choice. No one ever asks for a 14mm sigma when renting a kit or lenses. So that is an important factor in your decision. When it comes to rentals, the 11-16 Tokina is more popular than the Ruby.

Here is the droid you are looking for:

That said, the Sigma 14mm f/2.8 is currently not officially supported in the firmware. Worked a version back though. The Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is a heck of a deal.

if you've got the dough and don't need wider than 14mm I agree that the Ruby 14-24mm f/2.8 is amazing.

Not to hijack the thread, but if you want to go REALLY wide there's also the PELENG 8mm fisheye. Granted its fisheye, and extreme, but its also fully manual and $260.

Sanjin once posted about it and RAVED about how sharp it was. That was good enough for me. I have it, and love it...for the right situation.

But again...this may not be the droid you're looking for.

The rokinon 8mm and the 14mm are pretty great. Quite the bang for your buck

lots of great replies, than you.

Really thought id be fine with my 16-35 but i just don't really dig it
thought it was just a sharpness issue when rocking on the canons but the Red just brings out its flaws even more haha

Have any videos showing a furniture showroom or something that really takes advantage of the lens when shot at the different mm ranges of the Tokina - and how it looks while slowly panning?

I'm looking for a wide lens (or maybe I'll need two lenses with two ranges) to supplement the 24-70 I've got ordered - and I'm having trouble visualizing how they will look on the Scarlet in actual use.

Tokina's the bomb! The Peleng 8mm has a totally sick look (great for specialty shots)! Great deals for the money on both lenses!
