Hello All,

And the never ending of the best slider/dolly continues.

This past weekend I was up in the woods shooting "in the wild", waterfalls, deers, birds, foxes, etc.

I was using a Kessler 3' Cineslider, which did the trick, but when it came to shooting in the water for certain shots, that wasn't an option.

The Dana Dolly came to mind, which I love and is the smoothest dolly out there in my opinion, but not as portable as the Kessler.

Any ideas of some other alternatives out there I'm forgetting about?

A length of 2-5 ft is what I'm looking for.

And to be able to shoot in water, sand/dirt, and easy to set up, so as not to let that fox run away!

I'm fine with the kessler, just hoping maybe there was something else out there that's just a notch better.

I own so many damn sliders, have built a couple, and I'm even thinking of getting another one. The slider party seems to never stop. I own and love the Dana Dolly, but it's not the most portable option on the market.

If I was in your shoes Savva, I'd look into the MYT Paradox Modular Slider:

Or even Cinevate's Pegasus Carbon Camera Slider:

Totally forgot about the MYT sliders. They have the 'smoothness' of the Dana Dolly I'd say. And that Paradox one is defiantly portable.

Just worried about damaging the carbon fiber legs.

Phil, would you mind sharing some of your dolly builds?

There are so much custom made DIY dollies out there, it's just as hard committing to building one as purchasing one!

I wouldn't be too worried about the carbon fiber rods getting scratched. Just keep them in their own "sleeve" or use steel rods perhaps if you're super concerned.

I still use two of my DIY dollies fairly regularly. One's just a standard doorway dolly and the other is my own version of a MicroDolly.

Here's a shot of the doorway dolly on PVC:

The sliders I've built are all based around bearings and track. I'll dig around for some shots of those in action. For the most part I use my Kessler Cineslider or Dana Dolly (which I used to rent, but recently purchased).

Anybody use a slider in Safari situations ie from the vehicle? In many National Parks in Africa and India, you are not allowed to get down from the vehicle. Look forward to hear what others do in such situations.

Use the vehicle as the dolly and get a MOVI.

4' sections, 8 foot kit is 15 pounds with a flat plate and including the case, under $1200. ball mount sled is another $290. Just saw one and it was VERY well made, the tubing connections looked perfect. I'm probably going to sell my dana and get one of these. The dana is great, but hauling sections of schedule 80 pipe or speedrail into remote locations isn't fun.

You may also want to check out the IDS Slider "plus" yes its my company :) but I do think this may be what you are looking for. The tracks are precision machined and come in 3 feet sections, they are not as heavy as speed rail. The dolly is very compact as well and it comes in a carry case.
