I've tried RedCine X Sharpening & Unsharp Mask, Sharpening & Fixel EdgeHancer in After Effects and like
the Fixel EdgeHancer the best so far. But Im sure there are better solutions. Where in the pipeline Do you Guys
apply sharpening and what sharpening algorhythm do you usually use ?

For me it depends very much on the workflow, since I can't judge the right amount before grading is finalized.

Normally I use Resove for sharpening too, but if I need to de-noise, I sometimes add some sharpening in Neatvideo.

In a RCX-PP/AE-output workflow what is the best solution?

I haven't tried Fixel EdgeHancer but I like to use unsharp mask in AE.
I usually turn the radius way down - like 0.15-0.20 and the amount way up to 300-500
That seems to only sharpen the bits I like to sharpen instead of the whole image.

I'll try Fixel EdgeHancer though

I've been a huge adobe photoshop unsharp mask fan since '94, and i love the unsharp mask in redcinexpro.
I just apply it before bouncing to 2k Prores HQ.

I'm using jus standard after effects sharpen, if needed. Try to play with blending original and sharpen layers - this is the way to go. And, of course it has to be "spot related", I never apply sharpening to entire image - just to details I want to improve.

With unsharp mask, wouldn't a radius of 0.25 at 400 sharpening look the same as radius of 1 at 100? In theory it kind of makes sense to keep the radius low to avoid unnatural looking sharpness, but I just figured it'd end up looking the same when you pushed it too far (300-500)...

...I gotta go do some testing.

Not the best example plus this is shot in 12:1
It is much more apparent with eyes and shiny/contrasty things :-)

Cool... I would say overall sharpness looks the same (leaf edges) in both, but texture sharpness looks cleaner/better (the veins in the leaves) with the lower-radius/higher-sharpness. Good to know.

This is great to know. So as I understand it, with the RAW image the camera gives you, the workflow for a sharper image is the same as noise reduction; it needs to be applied in post because the camera has no sharpening or NR software inside while it processes the footage from the sensor, to the card? Thanks.

Absolutely! RED is not baking in anything but FPN compensation and leaves all the other decisions to you.
