Hi,

What are the best ND filters for Dragon?
I'm looking for constant color cast, tint etc...

Thanks!

Antoine

in my experience there are variations between all brands that are possible. You want regular NDs with Dragon.

Personally I recommend solid glass. Not resin and not an "optical sandwich" with a thin filter wedged in there. This can potentially cause ghosting on wides. More so if you are stacking.

My main PV sized kit is Schneider ND 0.3-1.8. Regular Tifferns are good too. There's a couple of newer NDs on the market I haven't tested, but more or less the real news is since IR is wrangled in camera camera by Dragon you just need regular NDs. I have various brands of 0.3-3.0 here and they all perform well and there is of course slight variations in terms of color cast between them.

Thanks to all of you for your responses!

Cheers!

When I'm not using a matte box I have had great luck using my heliopan variable nd filter 82mm on my MX cameras. IR seems to be fine up through 1.8. So I totally expect this filter to rock on my Dragon. In my opinion its the next best thing to internal ND filters. Not a big fan of the motion mount as I can't afford the loss of light and price... so thats not a realistic option for me ;)

Antoine,

for constant color cast and tint the best filters bar none, are the MITOMO True ND. An Emmy nominated DP and Major rental houses have tested heavily purchased for use for major television, feature film and commercial work. These filters have no discernible color shift compared to other filters. While expensive to purchase - so is time in the color correct to fix for color cast difference between .6 and 1.5... on EVERY shoot with those kinds of changes.

Check out the new Formatt Firecrest ND's they have no colour cast.

If you are using screw on filters then the Hoya ProND are fantastic.

Where does one purchase the TrueND filters in the USA? I don't see them for sale or much info about them.
