What is the BEST Lightweight Tripod for RUN & GUN with EPIC-W?

The purpose it to shoot ROADSIDE. A River, A Street, A City View etc...QUICKLY.

I'd don't want to carry a 20 pound Tripod.

I'm planning to buy Manfrotto Befree. It's weight max is 8.8 Pounds.

Any Suggestions?

Got myself a Gitzo Series 5, four sections Long. And so far its been awesome, working a lot in nature in the streams wich also means that its a good idea to pull it appart and clean it up a bit sometimes. After buying the Gitzo new light has been shed for me on service and possibility to break it apart by yourself, wich can be a nightmare with some systems. The gitzo is so easy to pull apart and clean that it almost feels to easy! Dear lord.....im starting to sound like a salesman......sorry about that.

Good luck!

i would not go with a manfrotto, pretty much the worst. id go sacthler ace, at least it's usable if you need to pan and tilt.

I unfortunately second this. Currently have a manfrotto 502 head, it is horrible. Have the manfrotto 755cx3 tripod that I mount the slider to, it's not terrible since it has a build in ball. But my next purchase will be a sachtler/miller/oconner

I just picked up a Sachtler Flowtech 75. Haven't used it in the field yet, but has just one leg lock for each leg located right at the top of the tripod. Speeds up adjusting the height of tripod tremendously. Not as light or compact as the Gitzo though.

I gathered this from quite a few tripods. Use it all the time got a lot of good stuff but soem I would like to see improved.

Siriu legs, bowl and bowl nut. Then an old Manfrotto 510 head with reds little quick plate on it.

The bowl solution is great, as the legs does not need to be set leveled.

The only thing I dont like wiht this setup is the twist to tighten leng extentions. I want somethign that is more like buckles. As it´s freaking anoying to not know if they are twisted tight or not. But still works quite well.

The legs can extent quite high and I usually take the head of and then it all fits in my checking luggage wrapped in my clothes.

Its small enough to carry around and its big enough to make nice pan and tilts.

Also got a super sturdy ball head for the same bowl that I bring when doing 360 plates and such. That is very small when removed so also good for traveling.

The manfotto be free I think is way to wimsy. You need some quite sturdy legs to be able to pan tilt without the whole thing start to woble like 3 fishing rods.

Also have had great experiences with both my Manfrotto 536 carbon legs but don't personally have a favorite head since the head changes with the need. The 536's have just taken a beaten and keep on doing what they need to do.

I'm not gentle with tripods by any means, rarely put them in the case, tend to throw them around (without the brain on it).

Whenever I see a set cheap on eBay I always put in a low bid and hope for the best.

Gitzo is my favorite lightweight legs. I usually use a 5 serie at 2.8kg but the 3 serie is 2kg

Have had a Miller Arrow 50 for years and is what I rely on for smooth pans and tilts. Anything too light and you may lose smoothness. Admittedly, I have a heavier rig than most, but I like it that way...helps me burn calories.

I've had several Manfrottos heads, never again ! Sachtler is my choice now for run and gun

I personally like the Sachtler speedlock 75mm tripod. It's true they need regular maintenance, but they are small, light, efficient and quick.
For heads it's a little more difficult. The Really Right Stuff FH-350 is a great one, but quite expensive. It's a touch smaller than a Sachtler FSB4, but in your appropriate weight range. Otherwise, you can look for an OConnor 515 or Ultimate DV head, however they have 100mm bowls, so the Sachtler Speedlock CF (not CF HD) would be a good choice.

+1 Sachtler. I have a Sachtler FSB6 + Manfrotto 535 legs. Very lightweight.

I have 536 carbon fiber legs too and are awesome. Can’t complain at all. I coupled them with a 509HD, might not the best out there, butis pretty damn good for the price.

Have a look at Miller Solo kits. Great for run n gun and the DS10/DS20 heads have great fluid action. Haven't tried the newer Miller Air but that might be even better (lighter) depending on the weight of your rig.
