  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Best Film of the Year

It's hard for me to say since I haven't seen all the films considered to be some of the best of the year but from the ones I've seen I would say Capitalism a love story would be my favorite for the year followed by Up and probably Avatar, maybe the Lovely bones which I saw today.

i think i am the only one who did not really like the Hurt Locker much. I felt it very repetitive and lacking in many ways. Very predictable, and I just thought it was pretty boring.

This year, I loved:

- Avatar
- The Hangover

And I liked, but was slightly disappointed with Inglorious Basterds, as I was expecting more.

As far as entertainment goes, id say avatar in imax 3d was spectacular, then probably Star Trek and i loved the screen play in Inglorious Bastards

Wow, now I'm going to go out and see Hurt Locker

My favorite movies were

1. District 9

2. Inglorious Bastards

3. The blindside

I loved Avatar, Coraline, District 9, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Hangover, Inglorious Basterds, Moon, Star Trek and Up.

Honorable mentions also to: 2012, The Informant, The International, Public Enemy and Zombieland

I haven't seen Invictus, The Road or Where the Wild Things Are yet so I may add them to my top of 09 list. I saw hurt locker but wasn't terribly impressed.

I'm going to go with Avatar just because it was so breathtaking. I felt completely transported to Pandora. Even as a single viewing it was an amazing experience. The sort of film which doesn't come along every year.

1. Hunter Prey
2. Repo Chick
3. The Poor Boys

Wow, Repo Chick was actually released? And it's good?

1) Avatar
2) District 9
3) Star Trek

I enjoy epic films a lot, and those 3 were some of the best films I've seen.

The Hurt Locker does get an honorable mention as well because it was also amazing. And as much as I'd like to put Paranormal Activity on this list, I noticed way too many things in the background that shouldn't be there (flags, grip stands, etc) and it was only intense once, every other time I watched it, it was hilarious.

1.) Inglorious bastards
2.) Avatar
3.) District 9

I just saw Up in the Air, and my wife and I both agree that it was very, very good, perhaps the best all-around film (direction, writing, acting, cinematography) of the year. No, it's not an epic, or a re-imagining, or in 3D, or action packed, and it was shot on that old celluloid stuff, but a very thoughtful look at our modern world. It's not going to change the world or anything, but a few decades from now this will be one of those movies that really captures where we are as a society at this period of time.

Jason Reitman is rapidly moving up my list of favorite directors, and Eric Steelberg's work was very good!

I don't care for George Clooney very much, but George Clooney was fantastic in this film.

An big ups to Jason Bateman- this guy is doing wonderful work right now

You are not alone. I pretty much felt the same way. It lacked a structure, and just felt like the film went wherever it wanted.

My favs are probably:

1) Inglorious Basterds
2) District 9
3) Star Trek

Not very original, I know, but to be honest, I don't like most movies. It really takes something special to catch my attention.

Inglorious Basterds
Star Trek
Avatar

Or at least those are my top 3 for this year. I didn't like the Hurt Locker either. I think the biggest disappointment for this year, for me, was Terminator Salvation. And Transformers 2 is a contender for one of the "10 worst movies ever made".

I liked Hurt Locker as a popcorn movie, but its not a great film IMO. This was the film that finally nailed the coffin shut on the unmotivated, overly stylized, repetitive and cliché-ridden hand held camera for me. I like the hand-held camera only when I'm not consciously aware of it, like in Children of Men. For me, Hurt Locker's shooting style got in the way of a potentially great story and some good performances and it took me right out of the movie... which pissed me off. The gimmick of fumbling with the zoom lens in the shot was officially worn out by the TV show Thirtysomething's second season... twenty years ago. I know this because I attended the funeral for it. Get a new trick, please.

Curiously, I liked Inglorious Basterds, but the idea of sitting through it a second time horrifies me.

I don't like ranking movies as a rule. I liked much of what the market offered me last year and I'm grateful for all of them.
