  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Best accessory for MacBook Pro?

Look into the Caldigit TS3, which is currently well-recognized enough to be back-ordered.

I tried a few and the only one I tried which I did not have to send back was the Satechi. They are slightly pricier than some of the other dongle type converters, but FAR more reliable and don't need a ritual or incantation to work.

And what I mean by that is, the other ones I tried seemed to need a special order in which to plug things in or some other trick you have to figure out. With the Satechi, you plug in all your peripherals. extra monitor, backup drives etc. and just plug the thing into a USB-C and everything works.

Cannot say the same for the others.

I found out about it from a friend at an IT security firm where they all use these ones. Everyone likes them. I have 2 so that when I move my MBP2017 back and forth from the 2 stations I have, I can just plug in the needed devices from one thing without a lot of unplugging and replugging.

Amazon has them.
 
I have a CalDigit TS3 Plus connected to my iMac Pro and it’s great. It would work equally well on the MacBook Pro, but I have not specifically connected it to the MBP. It has front-accessible USB, audio ports, SD slot. Rear has HDMI, Ethernet, USB-C, etc.. Very happy with it and it’s a lifesaver since all the ports on the iMac are on the back and I can save those ports for the more permanently connects stuff.
 
Appreciate the suggestions here-- I also just bought a MBP, had been looking at the Elgato Thunderbolt 3 dock, will now check out the CalDigit.

Just want to recommend a good on-the-go solution: for 60 bucks, I got the Tikko USB-C hub, which has 3 USB3 ports, HDMI (4k@30fps), a headphone jack, ethernet port, and SD card reader. Never had hiccups when running multiple devices through it, and it's almost small enough to slip in a shirt pocket.
