great question. I don't really know yet...it is way overbuilt. By that I mean it only uses 10 out of 50 amps per motor..has a shit ton of acceleration..I think it could fly 5 LB payload..right now the Canon 5d is about 2lb...but then you would get a shorter flight time.

scratch that. I know it can lift 6lb fine. have had that in battery packs on it.

it's a sick platform. VERY smooth. and safe.

wish I knew the minimum shoot ready weight of a scarlet...hint hint...

smallest lightest lens..smallest power pack...anyone at RED know?

I can scale this bad boy up...but it would be nice to know that I could fly a RAW camera as is...

2000feet approx

also now have FPV...FIRST PERSON VIEW...so I can fly around buildings etc and have a "heads up display" that I fly from on the ground. Like being inside the cockpit

One could get some nice arena and concert shots with the Obin Hover Cam.

I asked Jarred about the weight of the fixed Scarlet awhile back because I was wondering if a Steadicam Merlin could handle it... the Merlin maxxes out around 5.5 lbs... Jarred essentially said that would be close. So if you say 6lbs, I bet you're safe. Obin, if someone wanted to pay you to build one for them, how much would you charge? Or are you even open to selling them?

What would you guys be willing to pay for a ready to fly rig..video downlinks...all radios total package
?

Thats awesome! i never considered adding a 2nd set of motors underneath! Ive got a little bitty quad flying around inside at the moment! Ive been looking at going for a Joker Heli to fly the Scarlet but your quad build looks perfect!

Tough for me to say exactly, but you've got me salivating. Congratulations on your ingenuity.

I'd love it because it fits my vision for a fair number of shots. Perhaps you could put together a couple packages with different options. Maybe a kit vs. fully built etc. Or if you had an inventory maybe you could come up with some rental options. Or you could offer a mini kit with your critical stuff and people could go buy the rest. At least then you wouldn't be sitting on a ton of inventory.

Whatever - stick me on your mailing list. :-)

How does it handle wind?

I love what you did with the "first Real test". It has real potential. I question it being able to control a Scarlett. Big difference between 2 pounds and 5. There is also a safety concern. Both for the camera and people ( should the device malfunction). Despite the potential problems I hope you stay at it. You have done an amazing job thus far.

This stuff is very dangerous...even this unit has "almost" bit the dust a few times...thing is when your flying if one tiny thing goes wrong your dead, end of story..but when it works....and so far this beta unit has NOT let me down due to my building of redundancies in it...it's pretty sweet.
then the whole "flying thing" gets in the way..took me years to learn to fly a chopper at the point where I feel VERY comfortable with it.
